Transformers: Transformers
Isobel Lucas was rumoured to be up for a role in Transformers 2 a couple of days ago, but amid successive denials of other names (Jonah Hill, Teresa Palmer) the validity of this information was always very much in doubt.
Director Michael Bay however has come forth himself to confirm the casting of Lucas on his official message board. The Australian actress, best known for her involvement in the TV show Home and Away, will play the role of “Alice”.
Meanwhile, Rachael Taylor (who played signal analyst Maggie in last summer’s Transformers) has confirmed to Moviehole that she will not reprise her role in the sequel, which is scheduled for release in summer 2009.

It seems the Transformers 2 disinformation campaign is already in full swing, with cast additions being announced one week and denied the next.
We know that Superbad’s Jonah Hill is no longer attached, but now director Michael Bay has also shot down rumours that Australian actress Teresa Palmer has been cast on his blog.
Now IGN is reporting that another Aussie actress, Isobel Lucas (Home and Away), has been cast in the role of Alice in the sequel. How long until this announcement is refuted? Official casting details can be expected in the next few weeks with filming set to begin in June.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Transformers 2 negotations between DreamWorks and Jonah Hill have broken down.
The Superbad and Knocked Up star is no longer expected to play a sidekick to Shia LaBeouf in the upcoming sequel from director Michael Bay, which is projected to open in cinemas in 2009.
EW first reported on the start of talks between DreamWorks and Hill only last week.

Australian actress Teresa Palmer has won a role in Michael Bay’s Transformers 2, according to The Courier Mail.
Palmer (The Black Balloon, Bedtime Stories) was close to another part in a blockbuster film recently when she was rumoured to play Talia al Ghul in the now defunct Justice League movie.
Fellow Australian actress Rachael Taylor starred in the first Transformers, but it seems unlikely that her character would return in the sequel, which starts filming this summer for release in July 2009.

Jonah Hill, of Knocked Up and Superbad hilarity, is in the frame for a part in Transformers 2, according to Entertainment Weekly. The actor is in early negotiations to co-star opposite Shia LaBeouf, to provide comic relief as a sidekick to the LaBeouf’s character Sam Witwicky.
Just over three weeks ago details from a casting list of new characters in the Transformers sequel surfaced online. The list included Sam Witwicky’s conspiracy theorist Princeton roommate ‘Chuck’. It’s not unlikely that this is the character Paramount and Dreamworks are looking to cast Hill for, provided the information on said casting list was genuine.
Michael Bay’s sequel to last summer’s blockbuster is scheduled to be released in 2009.

Recent news about the Constructicons/Devastator appearing in the Transformers sequel may have been a fabricated lie.
Director Michael Bay wrote on his official site: “Sorry everyone, everything you are reading (other then we are shooting in Philly) is false. We are going to give so much disinformation on this film to confuse everyone.”
Information leakage during the production of last summer’s Transformers was considerable (we were able to review the script almost a year prior to the film’s release), so Bay’s need for secrecy this time around is understandable. On the other hand, an outright disinformation campaign will only hurt the sequel’s potential publicity, as news sites may feel forced to boycott their coverage of the movie short of officially released publicity material.

Production on Michael Bay’s Transformers 2 is set to commence this summer, but with the script already in development chances were we’d glean some information about the sequel before then.
IESB.net has now posted a casting list for new human characters in the film which includes Sam’s conspiracy theorist Princteon roommate Chuck, an African American military leader, a UK Special Forces leader, a presidential liason called Galloway, Sam’s Princeton physics professor Colan, Sgt. Epps’ sassy wife Theresa, a Texas congressman, and an FBI director.
More interesting though is the site’s intel on the new Decepticons that are set to appear in the film. It seems the evil half of the robot aliens will get help from the Constructicons, who in the original cartoon were six Decepticons that transform into construction site vehicles and, more importantly, could merge into one giant robot who went by the name of Devastator. Fanboy heaven! The film is looking to be released in 2009.

Transformers director Michael Bay has told RottenTomatoes that he has already finished the sequel story despite the writer’s strike that officially ends today.
‘I’ve been writing Transformers 2,‘ explained Bay. ‘We’ve got our characters all designed. I always write all my scripts, my movies, anyway, so at least I’ve got something to give the writers. It’s like a template. We have a really good outline so I worked on that.‘
Bay added that he will introduce new characters - ‘When you do your first movie, you break the back of it,’ he said. ‘Now we can have a lot more fun. We can actually make the depth of these characters more fun and a lot more interesting characters. To see actually what you can achieve visually, you never know. When you go into a movie, you never know visually. I think I’ve got a lot of fun, interesting, funny characters.’
Transformers 2 is scheduled for a June 2009 release.

Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has told IESB that Transformers 2 is likely to begin production on this summer, although due to the ongoing WGA industrial action the story is not yet in place -
‘We’re no where because of the strike,’ he explained. ‘We won’t know until we come back. We have a very fine outline and we know exactly where we want go with the movie but until this writers strike comes back, we’ll find out exactly where we are. Michael is completely on top of every detail. He’s designed a lot of great stuff already. He’s got a lot of great sequences imagined but you know, he needs some writers to work with before he’s ready to go, so I would say June 2nd is an unofficial start, it’s the target date we’d like to go for but, you know, we’ve got to get some writers to help us.’

For the millions of viewers that logged on this year I want to thank you for the support. Transformers 2 will be coming soon. The new robots are really really unique and there are a lot of them this time.
Paramount and DreamWorks has currently scheduled a June 26, 2009 release for Transformers 2. The first film grossed a total of $706.5 million at the worldwide box-office.
