The Day the Earth Stood Still
According to IGN, veteran comedian and actor John Cleese is in negotiations to join Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly, Kathy Bates and Jaden Smith in upcoming remake of 1951 sci-fi classic The Day the Earth Stood Still.
Cleese would play the role of physicist Dr. Barnhardt, a Nobel laureate who plays a key part in figuring out the mission and meaning of the arrival of the alien Klaatu (played by Reeves).
The movie, directed by Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose) is scheduled for release on December 12th.

Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s son Jaden Smith (The Pursuit of Happyness) has won a role in Fox’s remake of the 1951 sci-fi classic The Day The Earth Stood Still says The Hollywood Reporter.
Smith will play the rebellious Jacob, the 8-year-old stepson of scientist Helen Benson (Jennifer Connelly) who first makes contact with the humanoid alien Klaatu (Keanu Reeves). Kathy Bates and Golden Globe winner Jon Hamm co-star.
Scott Derrickson is directing the film from a script by David Scarpa about Klaatu’s arrival on Earth that triggers a global upheaval as governments and scientists race to unravel the mystery behind his appearance.

Variety reports that Jennifer Connelly has signed on and Kathy Bates is negotiating to star in The Day the Earth Stood Still remake for 20th Century Fox.
Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism of Emily Ros) will direct the movie from a screenplay by Ryne Douglas Pearson with Keanu Reeves playing the lead. The Story revolves arounf aliens landing on Earth carrying a message for all humans: Live in peace or be destroyed. Connelly is set to portray Helen Benson, the role Patricia Neal played in the 1951 original.
Fox has set a December start date in Vancouver. Erwin Stoff is producing alongside Derrickson’s partner Paul Boardman.

Twentieth Century Fox has reserved a Christmas 2008 release slot for its remake of the 1951 classic Sci Fi movie The Day the Earth Stood Still reports Variety.
The date has been moved back from May 9th due to impending Tinseltown strikes.
The movie, starring Keanu Reeves will update Robert Wise’s 1951 original about the visit of an alien who warns the Earth to change its violent ways or face destruction. All we have to say is ‘Klaatu barada nikto’.

Actor Keanu Reeves has signed on to star in Scott Derrickson’s (The Exorcism of Emily Rose) remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still for 20th Century Fox, reports Variety.
Reeves will play Klaatu, a humanoid alien who arrives on Earth accompanied by an indestructible, heavily armed robot and a warning to world leaders that their continued aggression will lead to annihilation by species watching from afar. Michael Rennie played Klaatu in the 1951 original directed by Robert Wise, and plans are to update it using the latest advances in visual effects technology.
The production is looking at a late fall or early 2008 start as a planned tentpole for the studio.
