Superman
Superman Returns director Bryan Singer has confirmed to Empire Online that work has begun on its sequel: ‘I’m just getting back with writers after the strike. We’re just in the development phase. I’m starting to develop a sequel…with the intention of directing it.’
Singer also mentions the intended tone: ‘The first one was a romantic film and a nostalgic film. I’ll be the first person to own up to that without making any apologies for it. I knew it was going to be that from the outset. And now that the characters are established, there’s really an opportunity to up the threat levels…Clearly there’ll be a body count [laughs]. From frame one, it will be unrelenting terror!’
Meanwhile, IESB.net reports that Superman Returns scribes Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris won’t be involved on the sequel; Transformers and Star Trek duo Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzmann will be penning the film’s script instead.

The troubled Justice League movie, the status of which Director George Miller now describes as ‘precarious’ could be moving its production from Australia to Canada reports the Sydney Morning Herald.
The project was supposed to start shooting last month at Fox Studios until production was halted, citing uncertainty over new incentives. The problem lies around a dispute about whether the $200m picture is eligible for the Federal Government’s new incentive for film production. The Australian film industry is apparently split over whether the 40% rebate rule for Australian producers should apply to big-budget movies.
Now it seems likely that the studio will push for the movie to move to Canada, even though it has a largely Aussie crew and a cast that includes natives Megan Gale, Teresa Palmer and Hugh Keays-Byrne.

The future of the anticipated Justice League movie is hanging in the balance according to a couple of sources over at IESB.
It’s pretty much common knowledge that the production is in trouble following casting problems and the impact of the writer’s strike, but IESB claim that if these snags aren’t resolved in the next few days pre-production will come to a halt and a decision will be made on the future of the property.
They also speculate that Warner Bros could have been seeking non-WGA writers to apply last-minute tweaks to script, so the next few days could be very interesting for the DC comics ensemble outing.

A studio source at IESB has told the site that Justice League, the big screen outing for DC Comic’s superhero ensemble is in trouble.
‘Justice League is indeed in danger of not starting production on time and maybe even getting scrapped altogether’ writes the source. ‘The concerns are that the script is not ready to go in front of cameras, and also that the budget is getting a bit out of control‘.

The Dominion Post writes that physical effects studio WETA has been recruited to design and fabricate the costumes for George Miller’s Justice League movie.
The news doesn’t really come as a great surprise as Barrie Osborne, the production’s Wellington-based American producer produced Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings. ‘They are doing all the costumes and they’re doing a brilliant job,’ he told The Dominion Post from Sydney, adding ‘A lot of people thought it would be too hard, that you can only make those things in Hollywood.‘
Weta Workshop specialises in physical effects including costumes, props, models and movie sets, whilst the better known WETA Digital arm of the FX house produces computer-generated visuals. The involvement of WETA digital in Justice League has yet to be confirmed.

It seems rumours that Brandon Routh has followed director Bryan Singer off the Superman Returns sequel The Man of Steel were a bit premature.
Aint-it-cool-news has gotten in touch with a high-ranking person in the know who claims that word that Routh would be replaced with the actor playing Superman in George Miller’s Justice League film are ‘absolutely false.’
Apparently, the only thing that’s been determined so far is that Justice League will not feature the actors from other superhero franchises in the roles of its own superhero characters.

Following today’s “confirmed” rumors that Aussie actress Theresa Palmer has been cast as Wonder Woman in the upcoming Justice League comes a follow-up on yesterday’s rumors about the role of Superman having been cast as well. When asked about the rumors that Brit actor Rupert Evans (Hellboy) had been cast as the Man of Steel, sources from Evans’ camp laughed and said that not only had he not been cast, but that he had not even auditioned for Superman or any other roles in the JLA movie.
(Probably a wise choice. He’s 5′10″ and British.)
