Speed Racer

Monday, May 12th, 2008

‘Speed Racer’The Wachowski’s big-budget flick Speed Racer came in a distant third at the US box office this weekend with a disappointing $18.5 million haul.

Not only did the film fail to dislodge the previous week’s number 1, Iron Man, from the top spot, it even ranked behind the Ashton Kutcher/Cameron Diaz rom-com What Happens in Vegas ($20.2 million).

Iron Man, meanwhile, continues to perform strong, taking in $51.2 million on its second week of release. This amounts to a very respectable 48.1% drop from last week and brings the movie’s total domestic gross up to $177.8 million.

Christina Ricci as Trixie in ‘Speed Racer’Christina Ricci told ComingSoon.net that she is excited about the possiblity of returning in a Speed Racer sequel, in which she’d like to see her character Trixie do more action-oriented things.

Asked if directors Andy and Larry Wachowski were open to doing a second one she said: “Yeah, definitely. Yes, that’s definitely the impression I got.” However, Ricci admitted that she isn’t signed on beyond the first film, and that the realization of a potential sequel depends on how well the first does at the box office.

Speed Racer opens in cinemas May 9. You can expect our review early next week.

The Impending Oil Crisis

quote I am a little leary of the situation. The truth will come out when, and if the US economy, and the dollar begins to strengthen. If prices remain high, you’ll know someone is lying. Either OPEC doesn’t have the supply they claim they have, or Analysts are incorrect when they say demand has decreased. Personally, I don’t buy the claim that demand has decreased. Population is ever increasing, so, the the demand should always be increasing. quote
