Daniel Craig as 007 in ‘Quantum of Solace’USA Today has published an extensive piece about their visit last week to the Chile set of the new James Bond flick Quantum of Solace, along with a couple of new stills (which we’ve made available in our movie gallery).

Setting up the film’s climax in Chile’s Atacama Desert fuses the plot with Bond’s internal life, director Marc Forster says in the article: “I chose the desert because it’s isolated, you feel lonely, and that’s what Bond is struggling with himself.” Bond actor Daniel Craig elaborates: “He has his heart broken. The love of his life is killed, and he finds out she’s not who she said she was. … He’s out for revenge. But he’s also out to find — and this is what the title is about — a ‘quantum of solace.’ Something has been taken away from him, and he’s out to get that back.”

The report also repeatedly mentions that the Olga Kurylenko played half-Russian, half-Bolivian spy Camille stands apart from other Bond girls as the only one who does not hook-up with Bond. Producer Michael G. Wilson explains: “We felt Bond could not immediately fall into another relationship. And we needed someone who had her own agenda and probably could not form a relationship either because of her situation.” In fact, apart from a one-night fling with fellow MI6 agent Fields (Gemma Arterton), the film is said to feature no romance at all.

Zara AdamsUK tabloid The Sun has reported that Zara Adams will be auditioning for the role of another Bond Girl later this month.

Zara told the Sun: “The casting agent and the producers liked my pictures and other work and have invited me for audition. I don’t know too much about the part at the moment, but it is a good character role as one of the Bond girls with about 15-20 minutes of screen time. And to be on a James Bond film as a Muslim Asian woman, would not just open up doors for me but break down barriers for other people as well. That would be the biggest thing I could achieve.

'Quantum of Solace' teaser posterThe new James Bond film Quantum of Solace will open in UK cinemas on October 31st, a full week prior to its worldwide release, according to The Belfast Telegraph.

Aint-it-cool-news reports that the first trailer will debut in theaters in front of the Will Smith starrer Hancock on July 2nd, while Variety is estimating Solace’s production budget at a whopping $230 million - a figure which easily dwarfs  Casino Royale’s respectable $130 million.

Meanwhile, a new behind-the-scenes clip can be viewed on ReelzChannel.com.

Al PacinoAint-it-cool-news is running a rumour they’ve not been able to confirm yet but makes for an interesting read. It seems that none other than Al Pacino may feature in a cameo role in the new James Bond pic Quantum of Solace:

The big news that he leaked was that Al Pacino would be taking part in filming. I was a little shocked as the cast has been revealed aready, but he said Pacino would play the head of the terrorist group introduced in ‘Casino Royale’ and ‘Quantum of Solace’. Al is said to come to Pinewood in April-May to film what is said to be a brief cameo.

The early Bond films followed a similar pattern with the mysterious SPECTRE organization and the long only hinted at supervillain Ernst Stavro Blofeld. In Casino Royale, Bond’s villain Le Chiffre - and the man who killed him, Mr. White - worked for a unnamed terrorist organization said to be expanded upon in Quantum of Solace. Mathieu Amalric’s villaneous Dominic Greene is another member of this group.

Quantum of SolaceQuantum of SolaceWith press reports being published about yesterday’s media conference, tons of new information about the upcoming James Bond picture Quantum of Solace has come forward.

Still trying to come to terms with the confusing title? Bond actor Daniel Craig fared no better: ‘It’s grown on me. I was unsure at first.’ Craig says that the title refers to Bond seeking closure over Vesper Lynd’s death and betrayal in the previous movie: ‘Ian Fleming says that if you don’t have a quantum of solace in your relationship then the relationship is over. It’s that spark in a relationship that if you don’t have you might as well give up. It ties into the plot, it’s not some random title. [And there is an] element of revenge’ to it, he adds.

Casino Royale Synopsis

Plot Outline:
CASINO ROYALE is based on Ian Fleming’s novel of the same name. Published in 1953, it was the first book in his ‘James Bond’ series. EON Productions’ CASINO ROYALE produced by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli will mark the introduction of Daniel Craig (Munich, Layer Cake) as legendary secret agent, 007. Martin Campbell (GoldenEye, The Legend Of Zorro) is directing this film, the 21st in the 44 year franchise.

CASINO ROYALE introduces JAMES BOND before he holds his license to kill. But Bond is no less dangerous, and with two professional assassinations in quick succession, he is elevated to “00″ status.

Bond’s first 007 mission takes him to Madagascar, where he is to spy on a terrorist, MOLLAKA (Sebastien Foucan). Not everything goes to plan and Bond decides to investigate, independently of MI6, in order to track down the rest of the terrorist cell. Following a lead to the Bahamas, he encounters DIMITRIOS (Simon Abkarian) and his girlfriend, SOLANGE (Caterina Murino). He learns that Dimitrios is involved with LE CHIFFRE (Mads Mikkelsen), banker to the world’s terrorist organizations.

Secret Service intelligence reveals that Le Chiffre is planning to raise money in a high-stakes poker game in Montenegro at Le Casino Royale. MI6 assigns 007 to play against him, knowing that if Le Chiffre loses, it will destroy his organization.

‘M’ (Judi Dench) places Bond under the watchful eye of the beguiling VESPER LYND (Eva Green). At first skeptical of what value Vesper can provide, Bond’s interest in her deepens as they brave danger together and even torture at the hands of Le Chiffre.

In Montenegro, Bond allies himself with MATHIS (Giancarlo Giannini), MI6’s local field agent, and FELIX LEITER (Jeffrey Wright), who is representing the interests of the CIA. The marathon game proceeds with dirty tricks and violence, raising the stakes beyond blood money and reaching a terrifying climax.
