‘The Golden Compass’ sequels looking unlikely

'The Golden Compass' theatrical posterIt is looking more and more unlikely that His Dark Materials fans will get to see the two sequels to The Golden Compass on the big screen.

While the big budget film and intended first of a trilogy failed to light up the US box office, it performed rather well in most other markets across the globe. With New Line Cinema having sold off its distribution rights for those territories however (to help finance production), it seems questionable whether the studio made any profit. In fact, the recent subsumption of New Line under the Warner Bros. banner (which will see 450 New Line jobs going out the window) is said to be directly related to the financial failure of The Golden Compass in the United States.

Crew members of the film have now come out and said that many of the movie sets have since been destroyed - as opposed to kept in storage for the production on the sequels The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass.

I think you guys are really bogus to get somebody all caught up in the story and then decide not to finish what you started!!! It”s premature of you to not have planned better to see this endeavor through to its completion!!! I throughly enjoyed the first installment and was looking forward to adding the set to my dvd collection but now that doesn’t seem possible. I am REALLY REALLY REALLY bummed out about this decision not to complete the series. I hope you are able to find what you need to finish off what you have started.

You’ll be better off reading the novels anyhow :)

With more creatures than the Star Wars cantina, Hellboy and his cohorts set about trying to stop an Elf prince from destroying the human race. Hey, it’s all in a day’s work for Big Red.

I must admit that I can’t remember much from the first Hellboy movie, other than I liked it. With Pan’s [...]

2008 U.S. Presidential election

quoteI prefer Obama to McCain. Now, McCain’s better than average for a Republican. And though his ads are intellectually offensive, he’s just bowing to his campaign masters and would calm down and be more sane once in office and not campaigning. But I have a few concerns with McCain on foreign policy. He’s not a full-fledged Neocon. That’s good. He opposed Reagan on Lebanon. Good. He was critical of Bush’s initial strategy in Iraq. That’s good. But there’s a problem. He thinks the Vietnam war was winnable and that the US shouldn’t have withdrawn. He’s also eager to spread democracy with force. This just isn’t a good set of beliefs for inheriting Iraq.quote
