Space.com reports that team behind Paramount’s upcoming Star Trek movie have employed a NASA planetary scientist to ensure the scientific accuracy of the movie’s astronomical imagery.
Carolyn Porco, leader of the Imaging Science team on NASA’S Cassini mission at Saturn has joined the production team at the invitation of the movie’s director and producer, J.J. Abrams.
‘Carolyn and her team have produced images that are simply stunning,’ Abrams said. ‘I’m thrilled that she will help guide our production in creating an authentic vision of space, one that immerses our audience in a visual experience as awe-inspiring as what Carolyn’s cameras have captured.‘
Porco will be working directly with ILM’s Roger Guyett, the movie’s supervisor for visual effects.
Star Trek is scheduled for release in December 2008.
