Kate Beckinsale has told IESB at the press junket for her new film Snow Angels that she won’t be making a cameo appearance in Underworld: Rise of the Lycans. Beckinsale played the character of Selene in Underworld (2003) and Underworld: Evolution (2006), both directed by her husband Len Wiseman.
The British actress didn’t rule out a return to the series entirely though, joking that she might ‘pull a Bruce Willis’ and return to her character at 50.
Underworld 3: The Rise of the Lycans stars Michael Sheen (Blood Diamond), Bill Nighy (Hot Fuzz) and Rhona Mitra (The Number 23) with Underworld creator Len Wiseman producing alongside Lakeshore’s Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi and Skip Williamson.
The prequel story, written by Danny McBride, will trace the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires known as Death Dealers and their onetime slaves, the Lycans. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian (Sheen) emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, Sonja (Mitra), in his battle against the Death Dealer army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.
