'Prince Caspian' posterLast Friday’s big release The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian took in an estimated $56.5 million at the US Box Office according to boxofficemojo.com.

While the figure represents a strong haul, it falls short of the $65 million opening of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in 2005 and is significantly less than the $70-80 million gross initially predicted. The sequel, produced at a higher budget in the region of $200 million, will now face a difficult time matching the massive $745 million worldwide total of part one, especially with the release of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull around the corner.

Meanwhile, Iron Man continues its strong box office run taking in another $32.1 million (39% drop) over the weekend, which brings its three week total to $222.5 million! Speed Racer is a long way off the finish line with a mere $7.6 million weekend gross, for a total of $29.8 million - and that reads like a catastrophe considering the film’s production budget was in the region of $120 million.

Spider-ManZodiac and Wolverine screenwriter James Vanderbilt has apparently submitted a working draft for Spider-Man 4 to Sony Pictures, Cinematical claims.

Particularly of note is the tidbit that the script is said to introduce a story that spreads out over two films, which could leave the door open for Sony to shoot the next two Spider-Man films back-to-back.

None of the trio Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst is currently signed on to participate in any more Spidey films.

'Cloverfield' posterCloverfield producer (and Lost creator) J.J. Abrams told Sci-Fi Wire that he’s not really keen on a sequel, but would rather work with the same people again on a whole new project.

“We’re talking about it. But the truth is there’s another idea that I’d rather do with the same people than do a sequel. It’s a whole new thing.”

Abrams concedes that both writer Drew Godard and director Matt Reeves “separately, have really good ideas for what [Cloverfield 2] could be. So I don’t know. We’ll see. I know the studio wants it.”

Battlestar Galactica - the sexiest and smartest show on television! When production wraps on the fourth and final season of Battlestar Galactica this summer it may not signify the end of the TV favourite.

The Chicago Tribune reports that discussion is currently underway for three BSG TV movies to be made later this year. Like last year’s Battlestar Galactica: Razor, these movies would not interfere with the series’ continuing storyline, but would instead be set before the events of the big series finale.

The proposed films would also depend on what actors are available to work on them. Production could begin as early as July if negotiations go well over the next fortnight.

Tyrese GibsonTyrese Gibson is in the frame to play the role of B.A. Baracus in John Singleton’s movie adaptation of The A-Team according to CHUD.

The Transformers star isn’t officially on board yet, since the script is still being worked on and thus no firm production date can be set yet - which could lead to potential scheduling conflicts as Gibson will be busy working on Transformers 2 and Desert Eagle in the near future. The actor commented that he’s happy to bring the character into the 21st century (no bling?), and that ‘the’ mohawk is not out of the question.

The A-Team was an American action adventure television series about a fictional group of ex-United States Army Special Forces who work as soldiers of fortune while being on the run from the military for a crime they didn’t commit. The show ran for five seasons on the NBC television network, from January 23, 1983 to December 30, 1986 (with one additional, previously unbroadcast episode shown on March 8, 1987), with a total of 98 episodes. The name of the show comes from A-teams, the nickname for Operational Detachments Alpha (ODA).

2008 U.S. Presidential election

quoteI prefer Obama to McCain. Now, McCain’s better than average for a Republican. And though his ads are intellectually offensive, he’s just bowing to his campaign masters and would calm down and be more sane once in office and not campaigning. But I have a few concerns with McCain on foreign policy. He’s not a full-fledged Neocon. That’s good. He opposed Reagan on Lebanon. Good. He was critical of Bush’s initial strategy in Iraq. That’s good. But there’s a problem. He thinks the Vietnam war was winnable and that the US shouldn’t have withdrawn. He’s also eager to spread democracy with force. This just isn’t a good set of beliefs for inheriting Iraq.quote
