'The Dark Knight' theatrical posterTwo new thirty-second commercials for The Dark Knight are currently available on Youtube via the following links: TV Spot 1, TV Spot 2. Warners apparently doesn’t want these to be seen so there’s no telling for how long the clips will remain online.

In the sequel to 2005’s Batman Begins, Batman (Christian Bale) sets out to destroy organized crime in Gotham for good, with the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart). The triumvirate proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a rising criminal mastermind known as The Joker (Heath Ledger), who thrusts Gotham into anarchy and forces the Dark Knight ever closer to crossing the fine line between hero and vigilante.

The film hits cinemas July 18.

‘Speed Racer’The Wachowski’s big-budget flick Speed Racer came in a distant third at the US box office this weekend with a disappointing $18.5 million haul.

Not only did the film fail to dislodge the previous week’s number 1, Iron Man, from the top spot, it even ranked behind the Ashton Kutcher/Cameron Diaz rom-com What Happens in Vegas ($20.2 million).

Iron Man, meanwhile, continues to perform strong, taking in $51.2 million on its second week of release. This amounts to a very respectable 48.1% drop from last week and brings the movie’s total domestic gross up to $177.8 million.

Isobel LucasIt seems the Transformers 2 disinformation campaign is already in full swing, with cast additions being announced one week and denied the next.

We know that Superbad’s Jonah Hill is no longer attached, but now director Michael Bay has also shot down rumours that Australian actress Teresa Palmer has been cast on his blog.

Now IGN is reporting that another Aussie actress, Isobel Lucas (Home and Away), has been cast in the role of Alice in the sequel. How long until this announcement is refuted? Official casting details can be expected in the next few weeks with filming set to begin in June.

‘Donnie Darko’The genre-bending cult favourite Donnie Darko is getting a very unnecessary sequel according to Screen Daily.

The $10 million S. Darko will not involve Jake Gyllenhaal (who played Donnie), but instead center on Donnie’s sister. Set seven years after the first film, little sister Samantha Darko and her best friend Corey are now eighteen and on a roadtrip to Los Angeles when they are plagued by bizarre visions.

Daviegh Chase will reprise her role as Donnie’s younger sister, while Justin Chatwin, Ed Westwick and Briana Evigan co-star. Producers have spoken to original director Richard Kelly about the project but he is not involved in any capacity at this stage. Chris Fisher (Nightstalker, Rampage: The Hillside Strangler Murders) will direct, with production set to begin in the United States May 18.

‘Bioshock’Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy director Gore Verbinski has been engaged by Universal Pictures to direct and produce an adaptation of the video game Bioshock.

Variety reports that this project marks the biggest videogame-to-movie deal since the aborted Halo movie in 2005. Verbinski noted that game’s art deco design and visually arresting characters particularly inspired him to see the game as a film. John Logan (The Aviator, Sweeney Todd) is in talks to write the script.

The X-Box 360-bestseller Bioshock takes place in an underwater city based on the free market principles of Ayn Rand, but things have gone disastrously wrong. Players control a pilot who crash-lands at a secret entrance to the city, called Rapture, and is drawn into a power struggle during which he discovers that his will is not as free as he’d thought. A sequel game could be released before the film comes out sometime in 2009.

The Impending Oil Crisis

quote I am a little leary of the situation. The truth will come out when, and if the US economy, and the dollar begins to strengthen. If prices remain high, you’ll know someone is lying. Either OPEC doesn’t have the supply they claim they have, or Analysts are incorrect when they say demand has decreased. Personally, I don’t buy the claim that demand has decreased. Population is ever increasing, so, the the demand should always be increasing. quote
