Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron ManFollowing the critical and financial success of Iron Man over the last week, Entertainment Weekly spoke with director Jon Favreau and star Robert Downey Jr. about the prospect of doing  a sequel.

While Favreau concedes that there’s “no formal arrangement yet”, he also confirms that there’s definitely “a level of enthusiasm from myself and the cast to tell more stories” and “a lot of ideas that we all have now”. One such idea that seems to be compelling to all of them is the story of Tony Stark’s battle with alcohol.

Demon in a Bottle is one of the very strongest story lines of the of the series, and Iron Man is not a comic book character who is known for having wonderful storylines. He’s known for having great suits, great characters, but the villains kind of get thin at times, and it’s so very dated when you look at Communism and the metaphor. Politically, much of it doesn’t hold up well. And the Mandarin is incredibly challenging in that respect. So we have challenges ahead of us.”

'The Spirit'Lionsgate has informed us that the release date of The Spirit has been moved up a full three weeks from January 19, 2009 to December 25, 2008.

According to Variety, Lionsgate president of theatrical films Tom Ortenberg said the decision to shift the film to Christmas Day came after the project was presented to fans at New York Comic-Con.

Based on Will Eisner’s legendary comic strip, The Spirit takes us on a sinister, gut-wrenching ride with a hero who is born, murdered and born again - starring Gabriel Macht (The Spirit), Samuel L. Jackson (The Octopus), Sarah Paulson, Eva Mendes, Dan Lauria, Paz Vega, Jaime King and Scarlett Johansson.

Ellen Page in 'Juno'This may not fit the mould of projects we normally cover on X-Realms, but as a student of literature I’m stoked to see two of my favourite novels of English literature being treated to new film adaptations, with two actresses that I admire set to play two of my favourite literary characters.

It was reported a few weeks ago that Natalie Portman (Star Wars, The Other Boleyn Girl) will star as Catherine Earnshaw in a new big screen adaptation of Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights. Olivia Hetreed (Girl With a Pearl Earring) will pen the script and John Maybury will direct, but no start date has been set.

Now it has emerged that Jane Eyre, the most famous novel of Emily Brontë’s sister Charlotte Brontë, is also being adapted into a new film, with none other than recent Oscar nominee Ellen Page (Juno, X-Men: The Last Stand) set for the title role. No director is attached to this project as of yet, but the BBC is producing and wants the film to start shooting this autumn.

Jonah HillAccording to Entertainment Weekly, Transformers 2 negotations between DreamWorks and Jonah Hill have broken down.

The Superbad and Knocked Up star is no longer expected to play a sidekick to Shia LaBeouf in the upcoming sequel from director Michael Bay, which is projected to open in cinemas in 2009.

EW first reported on the start of talks between DreamWorks and Hill only last week.

Matthew McConaugheyMarvel Studios announced its plan earlier this week to release a Captain America film titled The First Avenger: Captain America on May 6, 2011, and Cinema Blend is now claiming that Matthew McConaughey (Fool’s Gold) is in consideration for the title role.

The character is one of Marvel’s most popular figures still lacking its own movie, much of which may have to do with the fact that he originated as a sickly young man who is enhanced to perfection with a serum in order to aid the United States during World War II. The über-patriotic nature of this character seems hardly marketable on a global stage.

Dark Horizons speculates that the solution to this problem might be by repositioning Captain America and placing the emphasis on his role as the leader of The Avengers, a team of superheroes that also includes Iron Man, Hulk and Thor. They are slated to team up in an Avengers movie opening a few weeks later in July 2011.

Matrix creators Larry and Andy Wachowski’s racing film has amazement aplenty for eyes and ears. But the pure exhilaration is impeded by cartoon morality.

The Impending Oil Crisis

quote I am a little leary of the situation. The truth will come out when, and if the US economy, and the dollar begins to strengthen. If prices remain high, you’ll know someone is lying. Either OPEC doesn’t have the supply they claim they have, or Analysts are incorrect when they say demand has decreased. Personally, I don’t buy the claim that demand has decreased. Population is ever increasing, so, the the demand should always be increasing. quote
