TheOneRing.net scored an exclusive interview with Guillermo del Toro, who was confirmed last week as the director for the adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and its sequel film.
Del Toro stressed that the continuity between his two films and Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy is paramount, and that he’s already been in contact with the likes of Andy Serkis (Gollum), Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf), and composer Howard Shore. Prep work starts this summer, including “reforestation” of The Shire sets to achieve a close match to how it was seen in Fellowship of the Ring, which is set approx. 50 years after events in The Hobbit.
Del Toro also denies that the decision to shoot a second film, set between The Hobbit and Fellowship, is not just a ploy to double the studio’s profits: “This second film is not a ‘tag on’, it’s not ‘filler’, it’s an integral part of telling the story of those 50 years of history lost in the narrative. There will be certain things that we will see from the first movie but from a different point of view, but it will feel like a volume, in the five volumes of the entire story.”

The full trailer for Chris Nolan’s The Dark Knight is expected to premiere online later today.
SuperHeroHype analyzed the latest semi-cryptic message on the (borderline tiresome) viral campaign site WhySoSerious.com and uncovered strong hints that the trailer is set to go live on that website on April 28th, i.e. today.
The sequel to 2005’s Batman Begins, Batman (Christian Bale) sets out to destroy organized crime in Gotham for good, with the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart). The triumvirate proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a rising criminal mastermind known as the Joker (Heath Ledger), who thrusts Gotham into anarchy and forces the Dark Knight ever closer to crossing the fine line between hero and vigilante.

Christina Ricci told ComingSoon.net that she is excited about the possiblity of returning in a Speed Racer sequel, in which she’d like to see her character Trixie do more action-oriented things.
Asked if directors Andy and Larry Wachowski were open to doing a second one she said: “Yeah, definitely. Yes, that’s definitely the impression I got.” However, Ricci admitted that she isn’t signed on beyond the first film, and that the realization of a potential sequel depends on how well the first does at the box office.
Speed Racer opens in cinemas May 9. You can expect our review early next week.
