‘Speed Racer’Entertainment Weekly is running a stunning set of exclusive images from this summer’s Speed Racer.

The new effects-heavy shots showcase the film’s reliance on a rainbowy colour palette - a nod to the original 1960s Japanese cartoon series the film is based on. You can start EW’s slide show of the images at this link.

Directed by The Matrix creators Larry and Andy Wachowski, Speed Racer follows the adventures of the youthful Speed (Emile Hirsch) as he tries to obtain victory in his tricked-out racecar, built by his father. Speed is often bailed out of danger by Racer X (Matthew Fox), a rival with a mysterious connection to Speed.

The film debuts in conventional and IMAX cinemas May 9.

Shia LaBeouf as Mutt in ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’Two brand new stills from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull have appeared online.

The first, showing Shia LaBeouf’s character Mutt, was published in the latest issue of the UK’s Total Film and scanned and brought online by TheRaider.net. The second offers a new glimpse at Cate Blanchett as Agent Spalko and comes courtesy of Dark Horizons.

'Where The Wild Things Are'Oscar winner Forest Whitaker spoke with MTV about the controversial reports that suggest Spike Jonze’s Where The Wild Things Are might be reshot due to its subvertive nature:

“[The dark scenes] are the point of the movie, and I hope that they maintain that point, because I think children can identify with a character who is upset. …[Max] rolls by himself, no father figure; this is a single family home. His mother ends up having a boyfriend that becomes like a monster to him…people have to build trust with the people their parent starts to date…These are real issues that the character deals with, and I hope that [the filmmakers] continue to explore them, because kids need to see that; they need to see that other kids are dealing with it.”

Kristen Bell in ‘Fanboys’Back in January it was revealed that the producers on Fanboys had initiated a significant reshoot of the film.

The movie starring Seth Rogen and Kristen Bell was originally about a group of die-hard Star Wars fans who try to break in to Skywalker Ranch so that their dying friend can see The Phantom Menace on the eve of its release. The reshoots saw any mention of that entire cancer plotline scrapped, with the Weinsteins wanting to reinforce the “teenage comedy” aspect of the film (as opposed to it being a “comedy with heart”).

But according to The Hollywood Reporter, fan protests (and the fact that test screenings of the new version yielded only minuscule wins) have led the Weinsteins to partially give in: both the new and the original version of the film will appear on the DVD release, and the idea of “two theatrical versions” is currently being explored.

With more creatures than the Star Wars cantina, Hellboy and his cohorts set about trying to stop an Elf prince from destroying the human race. Hey, it’s all in a day’s work for Big Red.

2008 U.S. Presidential election

quoteI prefer Obama to McCain. Now, McCain’s better than average for a Republican. And though his ads are intellectually offensive, he’s just bowing to his campaign masters and would calm down and be more sane once in office and not campaigning. But I have a few concerns with McCain on foreign policy. He’s not a full-fledged Neocon. That’s good. He opposed Reagan on Lebanon. Good. He was critical of Bush’s initial strategy in Iraq. That’s good. But there’s a problem. He thinks the Vietnam war was winnable and that the US shouldn’t have withdrawn. He’s also eager to spread democracy with force. This just isn’t a good set of beliefs for inheriting Iraq.quote
