David YatesWe’ve heard names like Guillermo del Toro and Steven Spielberg attached to the director’s chair for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, but now it seems that current director David Yates might just return for the final installment.

Young adult author Lois Lowry - who’s awaiting an adaptation of her book The Giver which Yates was rumoured to film - wrote on her official blog: Bad news from The Giver Movie front. David Yates, the director currently working on the next Harry Potter film, was supposed to begin The Giver film next. But he has just decided he wants to do the final Harry Potter first, thereby postponing The Giver by several years.

David Yates helmed last summer’s Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and is currently shooting the follow-up Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The seventh and final film has a tentative release date of sometime in 2010.

rolandsmall.jpgVariety reports that multiple studios are competing to snap up Roland Emmerich’s latest spec script 2012.

The apocalyptic story written by Emmerich and Harald Kloser, who collaborated on 10,000 B.C., has attracted a lot of interest with studios hungry for fresh material after the writer’s strike.

Studio bosses read the script Tuesday, and indications are that nearly all of them were interested enough to meet with Emmerich and reps Wednesday to hear his budget projection and creative aspirations. After that, studios will bid on what is essentially a greenlit film, one that Emmerich intends to direct next and have ready for a summer 2009 release, barring a prolonged Screen Actors Guild strike.

incrediblehulk.jpgAccording to Superhero Hype! the first trailer for Marvel Studios’ The Incredible Hulk is due to land ‘in just a few weeks’ –  the site guesses that the trailer will be attached to Warner Bros.’ PG-13 rated 10,000 B.C. on March 7th.

In other news,  it seems that the company is scaling down its production to release just one in-house movie for the latter part of 2009.  This is as a direct result of the writer’s strike.  Punisher: War Zone has completed principal photography and is scheduled for a September 12th, 2008 release with X-Men Origins: Wolverine scheduled to bow on May 1st 2009.

The partial line-up of Marvel features in development is as follows:

  • Iron Man - Scheduled for May 2, 2008 release
  • The Incredible Hulk - Scheduled for June 13, 2008 release
  • Ant-Man - Writer/director engaged
  • Captain America - Writer engaged
  • Thor - Writer engaged
  • The Avengers - Writer engaged

Hulk Is Hero. It has been a long and hard two years for director Louis Letterier. To bring The Incredible Hulk to the screen was not only only a huge task in terms of scale but also in terms of a media and fanbase who were protective over a character they felt had been misconstrued […]

The Impending Oil Crisis

quote I am a little leary of the situation. The truth will come out when, and if the US economy, and the dollar begins to strengthen. If prices remain high, you’ll know someone is lying. Either OPEC doesn’t have the supply they claim they have, or Analysts are incorrect when they say demand has decreased. Personally, I don’t buy the claim that demand has decreased. Population is ever increasing, so, the the demand should always be increasing. quote
