Be Kind RewindThere is a small clip available over at the Guardian of the upcoming Jack Black, Mos Def comedy Be Kind Rewind.

Jerry (Black) and Mike (Mos Def), are trying to re-shoot Ghostbusters in rapid-quick time for customer Ms Kimberley (Mia Farrow), who is threatening to expose the fact they have erased all the store’s videos if they don’t deliver the movie she wants to watch (and has, fortunately, never before seen) before 4pm that evening.

The Writers Strike is overThe Writers Guild of America (WGA) has announced that the strike is officially over. 3′775 writers turned out in Los Angeles and New York to cast ballots or fax in proxies, with 92.5% voting in favour of ending their 100-day strike that began November 5.

WGA West president Patric M. Verrone commented: ‘The strike is over. Our membership has voted, and writers can go back to work. This was not a strike we wanted, but one we had to conduct in order to win jurisdiction and establish appropriate residuals for writing in new media and on the Internet. Those advances now give us a foothold in the digital age. Rather than being shut out of the future of content creation and delivery, writers will lead the way as TV migrates to the Internet and platforms for new media are developed.’

Harry Potter and the Deathly HallowsHarry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe told Digital Spy at the BAFTAs that there is no truth to rumours of Steven Spielberg directing the final film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows:

‘I have no idea how that rumour started or where it came from. It’s not true. How’s that for a definitive answer? It’s absolute rubbish that Spielberg is directing the final film. It’s not true. There’s absolutely no foundation in that at all.’

Producer David Barron meanwhile told The Daily Telegraph that Deathly Hallows may be split into two films after all: ‘We are still discussing it. The announcement will be made hopefully in the not-too-distant future, with regards to the way seven shapes up.’

David Duchovny as Fox MulderA scan of a call sheet from the set of the film sequel to The X-Files has gone up at Dark Horizons.

The site claims to unlike the bogus werewolf mask photos leaked from the set the other week the call sheet has been confirmed as genuine. The call sheet may not look like much but apparently the “Larry removes disguise” comment is central to the upcoming feature. Follow this link to have a look for yourself.

The film sees David Duchovny reprising his role as Special Agent Fox Mulder, with Gillian Anderson also back on board to play Special Agent Dana Scully. The popular mystery series ran from 1993 to 2002. A first cinematic outing, directed by Rob Bowman, premiered in theaters in June 1998. Fox will release the Chris Carter-directed sequel this July.

ConanEven though names like Rob Zombie, Xavier Gens and Neil Marshall are being strongly linked to the director’s job on the upcoming Conan film, Lionsgate has definitely not settled on anyone yet.

A scooper told Dark Horizons: ‘The bottom line here is that there isn’t one. The production companies are talking to a host of directors, there is no completed script and there will be no director until they have a script done.’

The source added that people like Rob Zombie were adding their names to the rumour mill themselves in their efforts to try and get the job.

transformersposter_lead.jpgTransformers director Michael Bay has told RottenTomatoes that he has already finished the sequel story despite the writer’s strike that officially ends today.

‘I’ve been writing Transformers 2,‘ explained Bay. ‘We’ve got our characters all designed. I always write all my scripts, my movies, anyway, so at least I’ve got something to give the writers. It’s like a template. We have a really good outline so I worked on that.

Bay added that he will introduce new characters - ‘When you do your first movie, you break the back of it,’ he said. ‘Now we can have a lot more fun. We can actually make the depth of these characters more fun and a lot more interesting characters. To see actually what you can achieve visually, you never know. When you go into a movie, you never know visually. I think I’ve got a lot of fun, interesting, funny characters.’

Transformers 2 is scheduled for a June 2009 release.

The Impending Oil Crisis

quote I am a little leary of the situation. The truth will come out when, and if the US economy, and the dollar begins to strengthen. If prices remain high, you’ll know someone is lying. Either OPEC doesn’t have the supply they claim they have, or Analysts are incorrect when they say demand has decreased. Personally, I don’t buy the claim that demand has decreased. Population is ever increasing, so, the the demand should always be increasing. quote
