Mathieu Almaric as Bond’s villain Dominic GreeneComingSoon.net has posted a collection of shots from yesterday’s Quantum of Solace press conference - along with the very first stills from the film.

The 22nd 007 movie sees James Bond trying to uncover the truth behind the death and betrayal of Vesper Lynd. Meanwhile, forensic intelligence links an MI6 traitor to a bank account in Haiti where a case of mistaken identity introduces Bond to the beautiful but feisty Camille (Olga Kurylenko), a woman who has her own vendetta. Camille leads Bond straight to Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), a ruthless business man and major force within the mysterious organisation. As he gets closer to finding the man responsible for the betrayal of Vesper, 007 must keep one step ahead of the CIA, the terrorists and even M, to unravel Greene’s sinister plan and stop his organisation.

Quantum of SolaceQuantum of SolaceWith press reports being published about yesterday’s media conference, tons of new information about the upcoming James Bond picture Quantum of Solace has come forward.

Still trying to come to terms with the confusing title? Bond actor Daniel Craig fared no better: ‘It’s grown on me. I was unsure at first.’ Craig says that the title refers to Bond seeking closure over Vesper Lynd’s death and betrayal in the previous movie: ‘Ian Fleming says that if you don’t have a quantum of solace in your relationship then the relationship is over. It’s that spark in a relationship that if you don’t have you might as well give up. It ties into the plot, it’s not some random title. [And there is an] element of revenge’ to it, he adds.

Writers Strike in HollywoodThe latest news from the front of the ongoing writers strike is that the Writers Guild (WGA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) have stated that they are holding informal discussions to determine if they can return to formal negotiations.

The joint statement comes a week after the Directors Guild (DGA) and the AMPTP reached a three-year tentative agreement over their issues. The WGA and and AMPTP will make no public comments about their current discussions until these are concluded, but it is hoped that they can use the DGA agreement as a framework to resolve formal negotiations (should this stage be reached) rather quickly. And end the strike which started back in November and is holding up film and TV productions in and around Hollywood.

Edward Norton as Bruce Banner in 'The Incredible Hulk'Edward Norton told Total Film magazine that there will be no connection between this summer’s The Incredible Hulk (in which he plays the titular hero) and Ang Lee’s Hulk released in 2003:

‘First off it’s utterly unrelated to that film. This is in no way a response to it or picking up from it. I think like Chris Nolan and those guys did with Batman, we just said: ‘We’re going to start completely with our own version of this myth or saga.”

Norton also recalls his initial reluctance to taking on the role: ‘When the phone rings and someone says, ‘Hey, would you be interested in the big green guy?” there’s that part of all of us that doesn’t want to look like an idiot. There’s the wince factor or the defensive part of you that recoils at what the bad version of what that would be. And I did that, basically. I said ‘no’ to it a couple of times.’ Until he was offered a chance to rewrite the script, apparently.

Heath Ledger as The Joker in 'The Dark Knight'Dark Horizons has posted an article detailing the fate of late actor Heath Ledger’s outstanding projects, which include The Dark Knight, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and The Queen’s Gambit.

It’s been confirmed that Ledger had completed all his filming and post-production work (including ADR looping) for his role as The Joker in Chris Nolan’s Batman Begins sequel The Dark Knight before he started work on the Terry Gilliams-directed Doctor Parnassus.

Warner Bros. is now looking at a major overhaul of their previously Joker-centric marketing campain for The Dark Knight, which probably means the studio will bring forward its plans to shift their focus towards Christian Bale’s Batman and Aaron Eckhart’s Harvey Dent. The original intention was for this move to coincide with the launch of the film’s trailer in March.

Fernando MeirellesA couple of days ago it was rumoured that Ryan Gosling was up for the lead role in the next Jack Ryan movie. Moviehole now adds that Fernando Meirelles (City of God, The Constant Gardener) is the frontrunner for the director’s chair.

By Any Means Necessary is the title of the next film in the Jack Ryan franchise, a series of adaptations of Tom Clancy books which was made popular in the nineties with films such as The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger. The new film is in fact not based on a Clancy book, but will follow the young CIA analyst caught up in global political events.

Apparently Meirelles’ adaptation of the John le Carré spy book The Constant Gardener has put him in the frame to helm the film for Paramount Pictures. Currently though both Mereilles and Gosling have still to sign onto the project.

Hulk Is Hero. It has been a long and hard two years for director Louis Letterier. To bring The Incredible Hulk to the screen was not only only a huge task in terms of scale but also in terms of a media and fanbase who were protective over a character they felt had been misconstrued [...]

The Impending Oil Crisis

quote I am a little leary of the situation. The truth will come out when, and if the US economy, and the dollar begins to strengthen. If prices remain high, you’ll know someone is lying. Either OPEC doesn’t have the supply they claim they have, or Analysts are incorrect when they say demand has decreased. Personally, I don’t buy the claim that demand has decreased. Population is ever increasing, so, the the demand should always be increasing. quote
