Golden GlobeThe Golden Globes are just a week away and it’s looking more and more likely that no actual awards ceremony will be taking place this year.

With the writers strike ongoing, the WGA announced that its members would be picketing the Globes next week. In a show of solidarity, members of the Screen Actors Guild have seemingly reached an unanimous decision not to cross WGA picket lines. This means that no SGA members will appear at the Globes as presenters or awards recipients.

HFPA president Jorge Camara released the following statement in response: ‘The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has been placed in an extremely difficult position with the ongoing Writers Guild strike. We are making every effort to work out a solution that will permit the Golden Globes to take place with the creative community present to participate. We hope to announce a resolution to this unfortunate predicament on Monday.’

Brandon Routh in 'Superman Returns'It seems rumours that Brandon Routh has followed director Bryan Singer off the Superman Returns sequel The Man of Steel were a bit premature.

Aint-it-cool-news has gotten in touch with a high-ranking person in the know who claims that word that Routh would be replaced with the actor playing Superman in George Miller’s Justice League film are ‘absolutely false.’

Apparently, the only thing that’s been determined so far is that Justice League will not feature the actors from other superhero franchises in the roles of its own superhero characters.

HD-DVD vs. Blu-RayThe High-Definition format war may just have been decided this weekend with the announcement that Warner Bros. is dropping its support of HD-DVD, opting to release its movies exclusively on Blu-Ray starting this May.

This means that the only studios left supporting HD-DVD are Paramount/Dreamworks and Universal, while Blu-Ray is being backed by Sony, Disney, Fox, MGM, Lionsgate and Warner Bros. Going by the size of the respective movie libraries (with Warner holding the largest), Blu-Ray will now control roughly 70% of the market.

Warners CEO Barry Meyer said in a press release: ‘The window of opportunity for high-definition DVD could be missed if format confusion continues to linger. We believe that exclusively distributing in Blu-ray will further the potential for mass market success and ultimately benefit retailers, producers, and most importantly, consumers.’

Gemma ArtertonBritish newcomer Gemma Arterton (TV’s Capturing Mary) has been cast as the new Bond girl in Bond 22 The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Details on the role were scarce - it’s said to be ‘nice-sized’ (according to a rep of Arterton’s agency), and her character will go by the name of “Fields”.

The Marc Forster-directed and currently untitled 22nd James Bond film will see Daniel Craig reprise his role as 007. Production on the film commenced this week in London, with Sony eyeing a November 7 release.

The Impending Oil Crisis

quote I am a little leary of the situation. The truth will come out when, and if the US economy, and the dollar begins to strengthen. If prices remain high, you’ll know someone is lying. Either OPEC doesn’t have the supply they claim they have, or Analysts are incorrect when they say demand has decreased. Personally, I don’t buy the claim that demand has decreased. Population is ever increasing, so, the the demand should always be increasing. quote
