Guillermo del Toro spoke to MTV News about his plans regarding a “definitive take” on Mary Shelley’s classic Frankenstein novel.
The Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy II director maintained that his version (still in the earliest stages of pre-production) would not be a literal one: ‘The only way to do the Shelley novel is to actually do a four-hour miniseries. But I think there permutations in which you can tell the myth in a different way.’
The most recent big budget adaptation is the Kenneth Branagh-directed Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (starring himself and Robert De Niro) from 1994. Del Toro’s take could be several years away, as the busy director currently has plenty of other projects lined up, including adaptations of HP Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness, Edgar Rice Burrough’s Tarzan and Roald Dahl’s The Witches.

South Korean monster movie The Host was one of the surprise hits in 2007 and rumours have been suggesting for a while now that there may be a sequel on the horizon.
Twitchfilm has now revealed that the sequel is in fact a prequel, based on a script written by Korean comic artist Kang Full. The story is said to take place three years prior to the original film and to revolve around the excavation of the Cheonggye Stream, an ancient waterway running through Seoul that was recently reclaimed and restored after years of being covered by a highway.
Apparently, multiple monsters are slated to feature in the film. Director Bong Joon-Ho is not expected to return.
