The press reports that an explosive finale is in store for X-Men spinoff movie Wolverine, which is due to shoot in New Zealand’s South Island this summer.
The $100m feature, which sees Aussie star Hugh Jackman reprise the role of grizzled mutant Logan, will be partly lensed in the region of Otago, which is famous for it’s mountain and glacial lakes. The remainder will be filmed at Fox Studios in Sydney, where pre-production is under way.
The movie will be set in the 1970s, focusing on the origin story of the Marvel comics character created by Len Wein and artist John Romita, Sr. in 1974.

A consent applicayion for temporary filming and the construction of sets at Arcadia Station, near Glenorchy reveals that a barn and farmhouse will be built at a site called Hudson Farm in the movie’s story, with the final scene involving the destruction of the barn using explosives.
‘The premise is that a military sniper shoots a rocket launcher at the barn, narrowly missing Wolverine but exploding the building,’ an assessment of environmental effects by McGillan Consulting Ltd says.
