According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jonathan Rhys Meyers (MI3) has won the lead in Omega Entertainment and Baldwin Entertainment Group’s Mandrake, with Chuck Russell (The Scorpion King) calling the shots.
Mandrake the Magician is a syndicated U.S. comic strip created in 1934 by Lee Falk about a crime-fighting illusionist whose work is based on an impossibly fast hypnotic technique. In the long-running strip, Mandrake is accompanied by perhaps the first black comic book hero, a character called Lothar, Prince of the Seven Nations.
‘This is a rare opportunity to reinvent one of the all-time classic comic book characters and create a new kind of hero for international audiences,’ Russell said.
