Variety reports that Ocean’s Thirteen knocked Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End off the top of the US box office at the weekend, taking $37.1 million in the process.
The third episode of the super-cool heist franchise moved from it’s predecessor’s winter release slot but just about managed to hold its own and keep the series viable (Ocean’s Twelve, despite poor critical notices, hauled in $39.1 million in its first frame and Ocean’s Eleven achieved $38.1 million in its debut).
The latest star-studded installment, written by Brian Koppelman and David Levien, and produced by Jerry Weintraub scored slightly below expectations despite postitive reviews. Tracking data had the movie on a pace to jump ahead of the other two films in the series by taking in around $40 million.
