Doug Jones as Abe Sapien in ‘Hellboy II: The Golden Army’Universal Pictures has updated the official website of Guillermo del Toro’s sequel Hellboy II: The Golden Army with cool new imagery.

Next to a scrapbook filled with striking production artwork, the site is now successively revealing posters (”theater lobby stands”) featuring the main characters Hellboy (Ron Perlman), Liz Sherman (Selma Blair) and Abe Sapien (Doug Jones). The latter two are already up and can be viewed by following the IMAGES link in the website’s main navigation.

The film opens in theaters July 11, 2008.

The Green HornetSeth Rogen (Knocked Up, Superbad) gave an update on his film adaptation of The Green Hornet in an interview with MTV, stating that ‘there’s a more comedic version and less comedic version’ and they haven’t decided yet which is the right one.

‘Just a few weeks ago, [co-writer Evan Goldberg and I] laid out our outline for the movie to the studio, and before the phone call, Evan and I were like, ‘This is not like any superhero movie — they might just hate that,’ ” Rogen recalled. ” ‘It’s not using any of the normal superhero movie formats. It’s not an origin story. It’s more like a regular action movie.’ [But] they really liked it and told us to go for it.’

Go here for the rest. Wih The Green Hornet, Columbia and Sony are hoping for a new franchise to complement (or succeed?) their successful Spider-Man film series.

HulkDirector Louis Leterrier spoke to Wizard magazine about his upcoming film The Incredible Hulk, and discussed the villains:

‘Obviously, General Ross is the villain, so he had to be in it,” added Leterrier. “But the Abomination, Emil Blonsky, was who Marvel wanted to put in this chapter—the first chapter of our new saga—because he’s the most famous. He’s an enemy that can actually threaten the Hulk. It’s very important for me that there is a danger. When Bruce Banner is Hulk, I didn’t feel in Ang Lee’s ‘Hulk’ that there was any threat. He was invincible. So with Abomination there’s actually a monster that can, you know, kill him when he’s in the Hulk form.’

The full interview can be read at this link. The film is set for a June 13, 2008 release and stars Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, Tim Roth and William Hurt.

Russell CroweWe reported on Monday that Universal was wooing Russell Crowe to take over the role vacated by Brad Pitt in State of Play, and today it has emerged that the Oscar-winner is likely to accept.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Crowe is in final negotiations to star alongside Edward Norton, Helen Mirren, Rachel McAdams, Jason Bateman and Robin Wright Penn in the political thriller (an adaptation of an acclaimed BBC miniseries) directed by Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland).

wgastrike.jpgThere may be hope yet for television in 2008. Talks resumed between the Writer’s Guild of America, who have been on strike since November 4, and various studios on Monday, November 26 at an undisclosed location. Both sides have agreed on a media blackout, meaning that there is to be no official coverage on what’s going on in the talks, but an insider for LA Weekly’s Nikki Finke says a deal may already have been made, quoted as saying, “It’s done, basically.” According to the insider, “reasonableness ruled the day,” with both sides willing to negotiate, and the strike may well be resolved before Christmas. Additionally, 30 Rock writer/star and SNL alum Tina Fey said she was optimistic that a deal could be reached within the week.

2008 U.S. Presidential election

quoteI prefer Obama to McCain. Now, McCain’s better than average for a Republican. And though his ads are intellectually offensive, he’s just bowing to his campaign masters and would calm down and be more sane once in office and not campaigning. But I have a few concerns with McCain on foreign policy. He’s not a full-fledged Neocon. That’s good. He opposed Reagan on Lebanon. Good. He was critical of Bush’s initial strategy in Iraq. That’s good. But there’s a problem. He thinks the Vietnam war was winnable and that the US shouldn’t have withdrawn. He’s also eager to spread democracy with force. This just isn’t a good set of beliefs for inheriting Iraq.quote
