Warner Bros has announced that casting is complete on the anticipated sixth installment of the Harry Potter franchise, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
A press release confirms the casting of Jim Broadbent (in the role of Professor Slughorn), Helen McCrory (Narcissa Malfoy) and Jessie Cave (Lavender Brown) and reveals who will play the young Voldemort: Nine-year-old Hero Fiennes Tiffin plays the young Tom Riddle at age 11, while 16-year-old Frank Dillane plays the teenage Riddle already on the path to becoming Lord Voldemort.
It has also been announced that two-time Oscar-nominee Bruno Delbonnel (A Very Long Engagement, Amelie) will serve as the director of photography, marking his first Harry Potter film.

The film starring Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, Timothy Spall and Sacha Baron Cohen is an adaptation of the award winning musical-thriller by Steven Sondheim. It tells the story of a man unjustly sent to prison, who vows revenge not only for that cruel punishment but for the devastating consequences of what happened to his wife and daughter. When he returns to reopen his barber shop, he becomes the Demon Barber of Fleet Street who ‘shaved the heads of gentleman who never thereafter were heard from again’.

According to a report on CHUD, director Francis Lawrence re-shot scenes for his upcoming Will Smith-starrer I Am Legend as late as last week.
Apparently Warner Bros. was not happy with the film’s finale, which was said to have deviated from Richard Matheson’s original novel. The site is guessing that the new ending ‘is more action packed and even more upbeat than before’.
The sci-fi horror flick hits conventional theaters and IMAX December 14.

According to Fox News’ Roger Friedman, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly star Mathieu Almaric will play the villain in the still untitled 22nd James Bond film.
Friedman claims that his sources insist the casting information is true, but wasn’t able to get confirmation from the actor himself. However, a formal announcement can be expected shortly. In addition, Friedman also suggests that Leona Lewis will perform the film’s theme song this time around.
The Marc Forster directed film once again stars Daniel Craig as James Bond, and is currently scheduled for a November 7, 2008 release.

According to the facebook movie comparison thingy, my fellow staff writer Tai and I are ’soulmates’ when it comes to film taste. Perhaps it’s fitting then that I should agree with him and award Beowulf ‘the film’ with a score of four stars out of five. It’s a very good, but not a great picture. I humbly suggest that if you would like to read a professional and nicely written appraisal of the story, performances and direction you go and check out his review.
You see, what follows here is not a review of Beowulf the movie, rather an appraisal of Beowulf the 3D experience, and an opportunity to ask if this version of the film really does represent the front guard of an exciting new era in cinema or is merely a novelty movie that is destined to sit alongside House of Wax and Cat-Women of the Moon in the curios section of the Hollywood Hall of Fame.

Bruce Willis has been signed to star in Jonathon Mostow’s (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machine) The Surrogates, an SF thriller adapted from Robert Venditti and Brett Weldele’s graphic novel. The feature is being eyed as a potential franchise by Disney.
The Surrogates is set in the year 2054, and the Central Georgia Metropolis is held in a grip of fear by a series of crimes committed by the mysterious lightning-wielding techno-terrorist dubbed Steeplejack. His attacks stem from an agenda that seeks to disconnect humanity from its dependence on surrogates, androids that the consumer can link with and allow to carry out the user’s life, acting as a full-time stand-in. For investigating detective Harvey Greer (Willis), Steeplejack’s anti-surrogate rampage unearths possible connections to a fanatical prophet.
The studio is eyeing a February production start in Boston.

Variety reports that Sony’s Angels & Demons has become the first major movie casualty of the ongoing writers strike.
The studio said on Friday that it is postponing production on The Da Vinci Code prequel. Sources said the script, which was penned by Da Vinci scribe Akiva Goldsman, was rushed to meet the WGA’s Nov. 1 deadline for reaching a new contract with producers, and came in with insurmountable problems. Furthermore, no cast had signed on beyond Tom Hanks.
The Vatican-set thriller was scheduled to begin shooting in February, with Ron Howard at the helm. Studio had set a Christmas 2008 release date.

Even though it’s been hampered by one of the poorest marketing campaigns in recent memory, Beowulf still managed to beat out Bee Movie and American Gangster to win the domestic US weekend box office. Even more remarkably, 40% of the $28.1 million total came from just 740 3-D IMAX and Real D equipped screens.
The performance-captured epic cashed in $45 million globally, performing particularly strongly in Asian markets.
