Chris Weitz, the director of New Line’s controversial fantasy epic The Golden Compass, took part in a very illuminating Q&A session with MTV News.
In it, he talks about the attacks by religious groups over the original book’s supposed atheist agenda and addresses fan concerns over the watering down of these elements in his film adaptation. Weitz stresses that the filmmaking process is a dynamic in which he must try to balance his visions as a director against the financial expectations of the investing studio.
