beowulfscriptbook.jpgFor those curious as to whether the big screen version of Beowulf can deliver on its sparkling writing talent and $150m budget, Beowulf: The Script Book provides an early insight into creative process that forged the Robert Zemeckis-helmed blockbuster.

Penned by Neil Gaiman and Roger Avary, the 272 page tome published last month by Harper Paperbacks contains both the first draft and final shooting script. The book also includes concept art, storyboards and the lyrics to the bawdy songs that Gaiman wrote for the project.

brucegreenwoodsmall.jpgAccording to the Hollywood Reporter Canadian actor Bruce Greenwood (I, Robot, Capote) has been cast as Christopher Pike,  the Starship Enterprise’s second captain,  in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek feature for Paramount.

The character of Capt. Pike appeared in the original unaired pilot that Gene Roddenberry created. Pike was a 23rd century Starfleet officer. He was captain of the starship USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) for many years, as the immediate predecessor to later Captain James T. Kirk, and succeeding Captain Robert April. In the original series he suffered debilitating injuries as a result of exposure to delta radiation and was put on a form of advanced life support system which allowed him to communicate only through an interface connected directly to his brain.

Star Trek is expected to start shooting this month. It is understood that the movie chronicles the early days of the Enterprise crew.

HeroesHeroes creator Tim Kring has responded to recent criticism of his hit show on Entertainment Weekly, listing what he believes season two has done wrong so far (and promising swift improvement):

  • The pace is too slow
  • The world-saving stakes should have been established sooner
  • The rookies didn’t greet themselves properly
  • Hiro was in Japan way too long
  • Young love stinks

You can read his elaborations on each of these points at this link (although if you’ve been following the show you likely know the specifics).

The Impending Oil Crisis

quote I am a little leary of the situation. The truth will come out when, and if the US economy, and the dollar begins to strengthen. If prices remain high, you’ll know someone is lying. Either OPEC doesn’t have the supply they claim they have, or Analysts are incorrect when they say demand has decreased. Personally, I don’t buy the claim that demand has decreased. Population is ever increasing, so, the the demand should always be increasing. quote
