Woody Harrelson and Katie Holmes (attached) look set to star alongside Giovanni Ribisi and Jason Lee in writer-director David Michaels comedic fantasy adventure The Other Side writes the Hollywood Reporter.
The story follows a female grad student who, while spending a summer on remote Destiny Island for her scholarship to study fish, discovers a strange world of unusual characters hiding a dark secret.

Following months of speculation, the title of J.J.Abram’s enigmatic monster movie project has finally been revealed courtesy of CHUD. According to the site, the movie will be called Cloverfield, a title that was mentioned right at the beginning.

Regular readers will recall that we reported back in March on Terry Gilliam’s script for a fantasy picture called The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus.
Now it seems that the production team of William Vince, Amy Gilliam and Paris-based producer and distributor Samuel Hadida have also secured the ex-Python’s directing skills in a movie that will star Heath Ledger, Christopher Plummer, Tom Waits, Lily Cole, Andrew Garfield and Verne Troyer.

Author J.K. Rowling has completed her first book since finishing her epic seven-part Harry Potter series. Fans however will not be able to get hold of a copy of the new tome, which has a limited run of only seven copies. Only one of these will be put up for sale with the procees going to charity.
The collection of five wizarding stories called The Tales of Beedle the Bard has been handwritten and illustrated by Rowling and each book will be bound in brown morocco leather and encrusted with semi-precious stones.

With the wealth of new fantasy movies popping up in the wake of The Lord of the Rings‘ and Harry Potter’s success, is there a quality movie to be found? Those that remember Eragon might beg to differ, but the answer is a definite yes with the adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Stardust.
Stardust is the story of Tristan (Charlie Cox) - a meek, young man who has fallen in love with the beautiful but cold Victoria (Sienna Miller). To prove his love for Victoria, he goes on a quest to bring back a falling star which has landed in the magical kingdom of Stormhold.

Splice, formerly known as Mutants, is written and directed by Vincenzo Natali. The film is set to star Sarah Polley and Adrien Brody, who each play scientists who combine animal and human DNA to create a new species. The result is a deformed infant that grows into a beautiful winged chimera, and a bond is formed between its creators. The bond turns sour, though, when death starts raining down.
Guillermo del Toro is producing. Production is scheduled to begin this month with a release expected sometime in 2008.

Michael Giacchino, the New Jersey-born composer recruited to score J.J.Abrams Star Trek has told SCI FI Wire that he will retain at least the original series theme music by Alexander Courage.
‘I think that the thing to do would be to hold on to the only thing that does speak—that says Star Trek—universally, which is the [opening theme from the original series],’ Giacchino said.

Comingsoon have picked up a copy of Lakeshore Entertainment’s promotional booklet for upcoming sci-fi actioner Game starring Gerard Butler.

Game is the brainchild of Crank writers Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor and is being produced by Lakeshore. It’s set in a future where people control other human beings via nano-devices with Butler playing a character called Kable, a world-wide sensation and top ranked warrior in a game called Slayers. In a Running Man type-scenario, Kable tries to regain his humanity and topple the system, all while being watched by millions of viewers.

NBC has indefinitely shelved production on the planned six-episode Heroes spinoff reports Variety.
The looming WGA strikes may have played a part in the decision to cancel Heroes: Origins that had attracted heavy hitters such as Eli Roth, Kevin Smith and Michael Dougherty.
