Family Guy will continue the saga with an Empire Strikes Back specialFollowing a flurry of recent rumors that, due to the overwhelming success of Family Guy’s recent parody of Star Wars: A New Hope, there would be both a DVD release of the special and a sequel episodes of the remaining installments of the saga, comes what appears to be confirmation of both. At a party celebrating Family Guy’s 100th episode (in which Stewie will finally murder his mother Lois), cast member Mila Kunis (Meg) revealed that not only are there plans for an Empire episode, but there’s already been a table read of the script. Series creator and voice actor Seth MacFarlane confirmed the same thing and expressed his hopes that the Empire parody will be successful enough to move forward with Return of the Jedi. Meanwhile, rumors abound that the season six premiere’s ANH special is being rushed to DVD and will include a trailer for the next special.

wonderwoman_lead.jpgConfirming what many had suspected for a while now,  the production of the Justice League movie has resulted in the Wonder Woman stand-alone feature being put on the back burner reports SCI-FI Wire .

‘They’re going to make the Justice League movie, and we’re kind of pausing on Wonder Woman now,’ said producer Joel Silver in a news conference while promoting Fred Claus. ‘Let them go ahead and do that picture [first].’

The Wonder Woman project was originally going to be written and directed by Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) who quit over ‘creative differences’ betwween himself, Silver and the studio.

starwarsvaultsmall.jpgReleased today is The Star Wars Vault: Thirty Years of Treasures from the Lucasfilm Archives,  a 128 page tome with accompanying CDs that many are describing as ‘the best Star Wars book ever’.

Written by Lucasfilm’s Steve Sansweet and Pete Vilmur, The Star Wars Vault recounts the history of the pervasive saga which spans three decades and has generated scores of paraphernalia — items readers can now unfold, flip over, touch, and even hear — reproduced script pages, tickets, blueprints, catalogs, stickers, sheet music, audio interviews, radio spots, radio drama excerpts and more. But these are just the beginning of this mega-scrapbook of all things Star Wars.

gijoesmall11.jpgIESB’s Robert Sanchez reports that with Mark Wahlberg out of the running for role of Duke in the upcoming G.I. Joe movie,  a surprising replacement has stepped in to the frame.

According to the site none other than George Clooney has been offered the role,  and has pulled out of Joe Carnahan’s White Jazz due to scheduling conflicts.   It sounds like a bizarre career choice for the Ocean’s star,  but Sanchez claims that Clooney is looking for a blockbuster vehicle.

akirasmall.jpgBloodydisgusting writes that Warner Bros have finally found a director for their live action version of classic Japanese animated movie Akira.

The studio is apparently trying to get Akira off the ground before the looming tinseltown strikes and have recruited 29-year-old Oscar nominated Irish director Ruairi Robinson (The Silent City) to helm the project.

The original futuristic cyberpunk tale was co-written and directed by Katsuhiro Otomo and was based on his manga of the same name. It is regarded by critics as one of the greatest animated films ever made.

landofthelostsmall.jpgComingSoon has spoken with Will Ferrell about his involvement with Universal’s big screen adaptation of classic 70s TV show Land of the Lost.

The adventure-comedy is being helmed by Brad Silberling (Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events) and revolves around a disgraced paleontologist,  his assistant and a macho tour guide who find themselves in a strange world inhabited by dinosaurs, monkey people and reptilian Sleestaks.

‘It’s going to be kind of on the tone of The English Patient, but with horribly frightening realistic dinosaurs.’ jokes Ferrell. ‘In fact, we only survive for 12 minutes of the film. It’s going to be more like a nature documentary’.  The Talladega Nights star goes on to explain that the movie will ‘not be so much a spoof’ but as as real as possible and ‘hopefully funny’.

Land of the Lost is scheduled for release July 17th 2009.

2008 U.S. Presidential election

quoteI prefer Obama to McCain. Now, McCain’s better than average for a Republican. And though his ads are intellectually offensive, he’s just bowing to his campaign masters and would calm down and be more sane once in office and not campaigning. But I have a few concerns with McCain on foreign policy. He’s not a full-fledged Neocon. That’s good. He opposed Reagan on Lebanon. Good. He was critical of Bush’s initial strategy in Iraq. That’s good. But there’s a problem. He thinks the Vietnam war was winnable and that the US shouldn’t have withdrawn. He’s also eager to spread democracy with force. This just isn’t a good set of beliefs for inheriting Iraq.quote
