Patrick Smith Kelly will adapt Kit Whitfield’s supernatural thriller novel Benighted for Warner Bros reports Variety.
Andrew Adamson (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe) is eyeing the project as a possible directing vehicle. Producer Graham King, who snapped up the book rights in 2006, will produce via GK Films with Adamson.
The project is described as an alternate-reality story in which 90% of the population is werewolf, and the minority human population is responsible for keeping the peace during the full moon. The book, published in the U.S. and U.K. by Random House (called Bareback in the U.K.), follows the story of Lola, a member of the police force investigating a series of suspicious murders.

Joe Carnahan has revealed on his Blog that Chris Pine has bowed out of his project White Jazz to command the bridge of the USS Enterprise in J.J.Abram’s Star Trek.
‘I’ve been talking to him this past week and knew how tough the decision had to be for him.’ writes Carnahan. ‘I don’t envy ever being in that spot but I gave him my full support, even if it meant he didn’t do Jazz. I get it. You don’t get opportunities like that often and I told him as long as he could control as much of that process as possible and not get sucked into doing lesser sequels as a result of taking this gig, then good luck and God bless.’
The Los Angeles born actor is perhaps best known for his leading roles in the romantic comedies The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004) and Just My Luck (2006). His grandmother was well-known 1930s and 40s Hollywood ’scream queen’ Anne Gwynne (House of Frankenstein).
Star Trek will bow on Christmas Day 2008.
