thespiritsmall.jpgActress and model Jaime King (Pearl Harbour, Sin City) has been cast in Will Eisner’s: The Spirit reports IESB.

King joins a growing female cast that includes Scarlett Johansson as Silken Floss, Eva Mendes as Sand Saref and Sarah Paulson as Dr. Ellen Dolan.

The Spirit (real name Denny Colt) is a fictional American masked crime-fighter, created by Will Eisner in 1940, who starred in a Sunday-newspaper comic-book insert.  The Spirit is a man who fakes his own death so he can fight crime from the shadows of Central City.  His nemesis is the Octopus,  who kills those unlucky enough to see his face and is looking to wipe out the entire city.  In the movie version Gabriel Macht is taking the lead role with Samuel L Jackson portraying the octopus.

polleysmall.jpgSarah Polley (Beowulf & Grendel, Dawn of the Dead) and Adrien Brody (The Pianist, King Kong) have been cast in sci-fi thriller Splice says the Hollywood Reporter.

The film will be directed by Vincenzo Natali and produced by Steven Hoban of Copperheart Entertainment and executive produced by Franck Chorot of Gaumont.  Guillermo del Toro, Don Murphy and Susan Montford also are executive producing via their Angry Bulls outfit.

They ignore the legal and ethical boundaries and introduce human DNA into their experiment. The screenplay was written by Natali, Antoinette Terry Bryant and Doug Taylor. Production is slated to begin in November in Toronto.

smaugsmall.jpgThe Hobbit movie adaptation might be with us before 2010 with Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson at the helm reports EW.

Sources close to the talks between the Kiwi director and New Line have told the site that ‘they’re detecting a lot less frost in the air, and that a deal may be reached that could help usher J.R.R. Tolkien’s maiden Middle-earth masterpiece to screens before the end of the decade’.

‘There has been a détente,’ said an insider. ‘There is now the beginning of a discourse between Peter Jackson and New Line that’s running parallel to the litigation proceedings.’

escapefromnewyorksmall.jpgJohn Carpenter fans take a deep, deep breath –  an unverified source over at AICN is claiming that Len Wiseman has jumped off the Escape from New York remake.

His replacement?   Stepping into the Underworld  helmers shoes is allegedly the much maligned Brett Ratner,  best known as the director of After the SunsetRed Dragon, the Rush Hour movies, and X-Men: The Last Stand.   You have our deepest condolences.

Anyway,  Gerard Butler is set to play Snake Plissken in the remake,  a convict and war hero who’s sent into a futuristic Manhattan — which has been turned into a giant maximum security prison — to rescue the president of the U.S. after his plane is knocked down by terrorists.  The much-loved original starred Kurt Russell.

The Impending Oil Crisis

quote I am a little leary of the situation. The truth will come out when, and if the US economy, and the dollar begins to strengthen. If prices remain high, you’ll know someone is lying. Either OPEC doesn’t have the supply they claim they have, or Analysts are incorrect when they say demand has decreased. Personally, I don’t buy the claim that demand has decreased. Population is ever increasing, so, the the demand should always be increasing. quote
