The Spiderwick Chronicles director Mark Waters has told SCI FI Wire that he would consider helming a sequel if the first movie performs well and the next generation of Spiderwick books capture his imagination.
‘You know what I would say?’ said Waters after being asked about a sequel. ‘I would love to keep making these movies, and all of it depends on what Tony and Holly come up with as the next chapters of the saga.’
The upcoming movie draws plot details from several stories by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black featuring the Grace children (Freddie Highmore as the twins Jared and Simon and Sarah Bolger as Mallory), who embark on a great adventure involving sprites, boggarts, goblins and an ogre named Mulgarath (Nick Nolte) after discovering a book called ‘Arthur Spiderwick’s Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You’. The movie opens in February 2008
