fightnightsmall.jpgAccording to ShockTillYouDrop,  Sony’s Screen Gems is looking for a writer to work on a remake of the 1985 vampire classic Fright Night.

The original,   which was a surprise hit at the box office,  told the story of horror film fan Charley Brewster (William Ragsdale) who believed that a vampire (Chris Sarandon) had moved into the house next door.  Teaming up with veteran horror actor Peter Vincent (Roddy McDowall) the duo resolved to destroy the creature.

For the remake,  producer Scott Strauss, who was attached to the project at an earlier stage said that he wanted to take the story in a different direction - one involving an amusement park.

mummy3small3.jpgRob Cohen has updated his production blog with some new info on The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

According to Cohen there are three scenes lensed in a set dubbed ‘the ruins’ which is the destroyed foundation of a farm settlement in a Himalayan mountain pass.   These include romantic interludes between Rick (Brendan Fraser)and Evelyn (Maria Bello), Alex (Luke Ford) and love interest (Isabella Leong) and Jonathan (John Hannah) and a yak called Geraldine (lol).

Brendan Fraser has lost 20 pounds to reprise the role of adventurer Rick O’Connell. For his climatic fight against Emperor Han (Jet Li) he has trained in the Czech fighting system called ‘Krav Magah’ which is used by the Israeli Army. Cohen says ‘He’s still charming and funny but the power has been turned up many notches.’

viggosmall.jpgJohn Hillcoat (The Proposition) will direct an adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s Pulitzer Prize-winning The Road says the Hollywood Reporter.

The film, based on McCarthy’s 2006 best-seller, centers on a father who walks alone with his son through a ravaged postwar American landscape in search of civilization. While Viggo Mortensen has been attached to play the lead role, no deal is in place, and his participation had not been decided by press time.

Hillcoat will direct from a script adapted by Joe Penhall with production scheduled to begin in January.

indyiv_crate1.jpgTV Guide has been speaking to George Lucas about some of his current and future projects,  including Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

When asked if he was disappointed that Sean Connery didn’t come out of retirement to play Indy’s father,  Lucas seemed upbeat, saying ‘No, in the end, it turned out better. In the beginning, he was just in a little bit of it, and I think with the strength of Sean Connery, people would’ve wanted him to go all the way through the whole thing, and the story really didn’t work that way. And so I think there would’ve been some disappointment that [his character] dropped out partway through the movie. By having somebody else fill that role, you lose him without any regret, so to speak, even though we got a great actor to play the part. And I mean, he’s not his father, so it’s much easier….’.

2008 U.S. Presidential election

quoteI prefer Obama to McCain. Now, McCain’s better than average for a Republican. And though his ads are intellectually offensive, he’s just bowing to his campaign masters and would calm down and be more sane once in office and not campaigning. But I have a few concerns with McCain on foreign policy. He’s not a full-fledged Neocon. That’s good. He opposed Reagan on Lebanon. Good. He was critical of Bush’s initial strategy in Iraq. That’s good. But there’s a problem. He thinks the Vietnam war was winnable and that the US shouldn’t have withdrawn. He’s also eager to spread democracy with force. This just isn’t a good set of beliefs for inheriting Iraq.quote
