'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' book cover motiveDaniel Radcliffe starts shooting his scenes on Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in six days, and MTV caught up with him to inquire about the sixth installment’s most prominent character addition.

‘Most of the time he’s gonna be very funny,’ Radcliffe said about the new Potions master Horace Slughorn, but concedes that ‘the tragedy [of Slughorn] outweigh[s] the comedy’. The 18-year old actor revealed that the role’s already been cast, but unfortunately he wasn’t at liberty to disclose who precisely had won it: ‘I don’t know if I can say. I don’t know if it’s been announced, and I don’t want to spoil any of our surprises.’

The film is pencilled in for a November 21, 2008 release date.

Mt. VesuviusScheduling conflicts have prompted director Roman Polanski (The Pianist) to abandon the big budget adaptation of the Robert Harris novel Pompeii, reports Screen Daily.

Pre-production on the project has been on-going for nearly a year, but Polanski pulled out after the studio indicated they may have to postpone next summer’s shoot in Europe because of the impeding industry strike next June. Polanski’s schedule would not permit him an uncertain start date beyond 2008.

Summit International is now searching for a new director to take the reigns.

2008 U.S. Presidential election

quoteI prefer Obama to McCain. Now, McCain’s better than average for a Republican. And though his ads are intellectually offensive, he’s just bowing to his campaign masters and would calm down and be more sane once in office and not campaigning. But I have a few concerns with McCain on foreign policy. He’s not a full-fledged Neocon. That’s good. He opposed Reagan on Lebanon. Good. He was critical of Bush’s initial strategy in Iraq. That’s good. But there’s a problem. He thinks the Vietnam war was winnable and that the US shouldn’t have withdrawn. He’s also eager to spread democracy with force. This just isn’t a good set of beliefs for inheriting Iraq.quote
