beowulfsmall1.jpgParamount have released the first Beowulf TV spot.

Although short and lacking the blood, guts and nudity of the restricted trailer,  the spot does show brief flashes on new footage.  Meanwhile,  MTV claim to have an exclusive image from the film which turns out to be merely a frame grabbed from this same footage.  Naturally you can see all of the latest images including HD screencaps in our gallery.

hancocksmall.jpgComingsoon.net have published ten new set photos from the off-beat 2008 superhero drama Hancock (previously titled ‘Tonight,  He Comes‘ *snigger).

The images depict a scene that looks like down on his luck crimefighter John Hancock (Will Smith) has just crash landed into Cahrlize Theron’s life.  In the movie Will Smith portrays an unpopular alcoholic superhero who enrolls a publicist (Jason Bateman) to help rehabilitate him but eventually begins an affair with his wife (Theron).

You can check out the snaps over at Comingsoon.net or look them up in the X-Realms gallery.

deathracesmall.jpgAccording to Ian McShane,  Paul Anderson’s Death Race,  a re-imagining of the ultra-violent Roger Corman 1975 classic Death Race 2000 will be set inside a prison.

‘This is even more violent,’ McShane told Empire Online‘This is set in the future, it’s like NASCAR to the death inside prison. On TV. And I play the guy who runs the race, coaches the racers, from inside prison. It’s a lot of fun.

McShane stars as a ’super-mechanic’ alongside Transporter star Jason Statham,  who plays a crowd favourite called Frankenstein who is accompanied by a navigator (model Nathalie Martinez) who helps him plot an escape.  The feature,  which is being produced by Anderson’s and Tom Cruise has started filming in Montreal.

mariabellosmall.jpgMaria Bello, who is taking over the role of Evelyn Carnahan,  made famous by Rachel Weiss in the first two Mummy movies has been speaking to SCI FI Wire about her character in the upcoming The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

The A History of Violence star, who has dyed her normally blond hair auburn for the movie says ‘She has the same name, but she’s a very different character than Rachel played.  She’s a bad-ass action chick. I had to train a lot. I had to do wushu, a martial-art form, some kickboxing, swordfighting, rifle training for a couple of months before we even started shooting. It’s the role of my dreams. It is just a blast.’

Bello will soon join Brendan Fraser and Jet Li for two months of lensing in China.  The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor opens August 1st 2008.

Boba FettThe official Star Wars site has posted an interview with Rick McCallum in a preview of the new Star Wars Insider magazine which is now available at news stands.

In it, the producer shares new details about the upcoming live-action TV show: ‘It’ll be darker and more mature, and very character based. The idea is to do, say, 13 to 16 episodes over one or two years — we haven’t quite figured that out yet as television is changing so dramatically worldwide. After the second or third year, one of the characters from the first series could move on to his own series. Then, by the fourth or fifth year, we would love to have four or five separate TV series of 13 episodes each running.’

McCallum also confirmed that he and George Lucas have met over 200 writers already and were hoping to start shooting the series in Sydney, Australia by 2009.

Grabbing for your moneyWarner Bros. Pictures has today announced that thanks to the continued success of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the Harry Potter films have now become, worldwide, the top-grossing motion picture franchise in history.

The five Harry Potter movies have so far accumulated a worldwide gross of $4.47 billion, which surpasses the $4.44 billion and the $4.23 billion amassed by the James Bond (over 22 films) and Star Wars (six films) franchises respectively.

Warner Bros. boasts that their franchise still has two films in the wing (Half-Blood Prince is scheduled for November 2008, Deathly Hallows for 2010), while Variety points out that none of the tallies account for inflation or the rising ticket prices over the years.

Jesper Christensen as Mr. White in ‘Casino Royale’Jesper Christensen will reprise his role as Mr. White, the boss of Le Chiffre in Casino Royale, in next year’s Bond 22, according to MI6.

The Danish actor said that his character (highlight for spoiler) would endure 007’s interrogation methods at the beginning of the film. This information matches the comment by screenwriter Paul Haggis that the new film will pick up literally two minutes after the final scene in Casino Royale.

The 22nd installment in the James Bond franchise starts filming in December for a November 7, 2008 release.

‘Tron’Commercial director Joseph Kosinski is in final negotiations to develop and direct Tron, the next chapter of Disney’s 1982 cult classic, says The Hollywood Reporter.

A month after signing on to helm the Logan’s Run remake, Kosinski will supervize the visual development of the project and help with the script, which is being penned by Lost scribes Eddie Kitsis and Adam Horowitz.

The original, about a computer programmer thrust into a computer and forced to fight in games he helped create, was the first movie to use computer-generated images instead of models and other optical effects in conjunction with live action. The arcade game based on the movie was so popular that it earned more than the movie.

The Impending Oil Crisis

quote I am a little leary of the situation. The truth will come out when, and if the US economy, and the dollar begins to strengthen. If prices remain high, you’ll know someone is lying. Either OPEC doesn’t have the supply they claim they have, or Analysts are incorrect when they say demand has decreased. Personally, I don’t buy the claim that demand has decreased. Population is ever increasing, so, the the demand should always be increasing. quote
