dunesmall.jpgA juicy rumour about a possible new movie version of Frank Herbert’s classic sci-fi novel Dune has emerged from the Dune novels forums via C.H.U.D.

Byron Merritt,  who runs the boards and is reportedly a member of the Herbert family posted ‘We’re getting VERY close to a deal. Heard that news today. Although only rumor, I’ve heard that someone at the studio wants Dune reallllly bad and has been a fan of the novel for years. They’re not saying who this is (and it might just be hype), but I’m holding out hope that whoever this might be is a big enough fan that he/she will do the book justice. Supposedly it’s some director.’

Dune was first published in 1965 and was joint winner of the 1966 Hugo Award and the winner of the first Nebula Award for Best Novel.  The book spawned five sequels written by Herbert and inspired a 1984 film adaptation by David Lynch,  two mini-series made by the Sci Fi Channel,  computer games,  board games and a series of prequels and sequels co-written by the author’s son Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.

justiceleaguesmall1.jpgObsessedwithfilm.com reports that Warner Bros have hired casting directors Susan Shopmaker, Michelle Allen and RDC Casting in New York, Vancouver and Toronto, respectively, to cast the Justice League movie.

The news originates from industry audition site Showfax who have advertised multiple roles for the DC superhero ensemble piece.

Presumably the parts in question include BatmanSupermanThe Flash, Aquaman,  Wonder Woman and the Green Lantern,  although it’s understood that standalone franchise stars Christian Bale and Brandon Routh are not involved.

bondsmall.jpgThe Hollywood Reporter writes that Bond 22 producers have recruited Bourne Supremacy and Bourne Ultimatum action designer Dan Bradley.

Bradley will act as the film’s second unit director,  no doubt a move intended to lend the movie a more gritty and realistic approach that worked so well for the two Paul Greengrass-helmed Bourne sequels.

Bradley is coming off of working on the latest Indy IV movie.  His recent credits as second unit director include the two Spider-Man sequels,  Superman Returns and Seabiscuit.

joustsmall.jpgAs Hollywood continues its unsettling trend of buying up every old TV and video game property in sight,  another utterly nonsensical adaptation could be on the way.

If you thought that CastlevaniaPrince of Persia and The Sims were a stretch,  prepare yourself for a big screen outing for Williams Electronics ancient flying ostrich game Joust.

Michael Cerenzie (Black Water Transit and Christine Peters’ new production banner, CP Productions will develop the project for Midway Games,  who own the rights reports Variety.

hitmansmall.jpgComingsoon.net have published the rather nice new international poster for the 20th Century Fox video game feature adaptation Hitman.

Click here to take a look in our gallery.

The protagonist of the movie is one Agent 47 (Timothy Olyphant) who has been educated to become a professional assassin for hire, whose most powerful weapons are his nerve and a resolute pride in his work. The hunter becomes the hunted when 47 gets caught up in a political takeover. Both Interpol and the Russian military chase the Hitman across Eastern Europe as he tries to find out who set him up and why they’re trying to take him out of the game. But the greatest threat to 47’s survival may be the stirrings of his conscience and the unfamiliar emotions aroused in him by a beautiful, damaged girl.

The film opens November 21st and also stars Dougray Scott, Olga Kurylenko, Michael Offei, Robert Knepper and Ulrich Thomsen.

zoe-saldanasmall.jpgAccording to Trekmovie.com,  29-year-old actress Zoë Saldana has been offered the role of Nyota Uhura in JJ Abram’s Star Trek reboot.

The character was originally played by Nichelle Nichols in Star Trek: The Original Series and the first six Star Trek films, acting as a Starfleet Chief Communications Officer,  Lieutenant Commander and Commander aboard the USS Enterprise and the USS Enterprise-A.

Saldana got her first screen experience in an episode of Law & Order in 1999 followed by her major film debut,  in 2000’s Center Stage,  which she followed up in 2002 with appearances in the Britney Spears vehicle,  Crossroads and the Nick Cannon-starring comedy,  Drumline.

Meanwhile,  Moriarty at AICN has written an article that suggests much of the upcoming movie takes place in an alternative canon-friendly timeline with Romulans travelling back in time to assassinate James T. Kirk and change history.  According to the rumours,  the older Spock (Leonard Nimoy) will be central to the plot and play a key role in protecting the youthful Kirk.

With more creatures than the Star Wars cantina, Hellboy and his cohorts set about trying to stop an Elf prince from destroying the human race. Hey, it’s all in a day’s work for Big Red.

2008 U.S. Presidential election

quoteI prefer Obama to McCain. Now, McCain’s better than average for a Republican. And though his ads are intellectually offensive, he’s just bowing to his campaign masters and would calm down and be more sane once in office and not campaigning. But I have a few concerns with McCain on foreign policy. He’s not a full-fledged Neocon. That’s good. He opposed Reagan on Lebanon. Good. He was critical of Bush’s initial strategy in Iraq. That’s good. But there’s a problem. He thinks the Vietnam war was winnable and that the US shouldn’t have withdrawn. He’s also eager to spread democracy with force. This just isn’t a good set of beliefs for inheriting Iraq.quote
