uhurasmall.jpgTV Guide reports that Nichelle Nichols, best known for playing Lt. Uhura in Star Trek is joining the cast of Tim Kring’s smash TV show Heroes. Nichols follows her old Trek castmate George (Sulu) Takei who played Hiro’s father in series one.

Nichols will be playing Nana, the New Orleans-based grandmother of Monica (the new hero being played by The Nine’s Dana Davis). The 75 year old actress originally found fame as a singer, touring with the Duke Ellington and Lionel Hampton bands before earning critical praise her performance in the James Baldwin play, Blues for Mister Charlie. Depp and Bonham Carter in ‘Sweeney Todd’The first official film still from Tim Burton’s upcoming Sweeney Todd has surfaced on Bloody-Disgusting.com. It features the characters of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter and can be viewed in our movie gallery.

The film - released January 11 and also starring Alan Rickman, Timothy Spall and Sacha Baron Cohen - is an adaptation of the award winning musical-thriller by Steven Sondheim. It tells the story of a man unjustly sent to prison, who vows revenge not only for that cruel punishment but for the devastating consequences of what happened to his wife and daughter. When he returns to reopen his barber shop, he becomes the Demon Barber of Fleet Street who “shaved the heads of gentleman who never thereafter were heard from again.”

The Mach 5 in 'Speed Racer'A first review of Andy and Larry Wachowski’s script for their big screen Speed Racer adaptation has gone online on Aint-it-cool-news.com.

Written by a fan of the original cartoon, the review is glowing. Here’s an excerpt: ‘The world the Wachowskis have created here is obsessed with racing and speed, with vintage cars filling the landscape, and the races themselves are huge, physics-defying spectacles of rubber, steel, and smoke. It’s very cartoony and colorful, and I look forward to seeing it on the big screen. The script is also very earnest. The love for the cartoon really shines through here - it’s obvious the Wachowskis love SPEED RACER and treat it with great respect, taking it seriously and at the same time keeping the inherent camp and goofy comedy of the show.’ You can read the full review at this link.

The movie is scheduled for a May 9, 2008 opening.

‘Jurassic Park’Universal Pictures has begun casting roles for Jurassic Park IV with filming in Hawaii set to begin later this year, says Bloody-Disgusting.com.

The site claims that the plot of the third sequel of the original Oscar-winning film will focus on the government, who has trained dinosaurs to carry and use weapons.

These details sound so ridiculous that we reckon they may, in fact, be true.

With more creatures than the Star Wars cantina, Hellboy and his cohorts set about trying to stop an Elf prince from destroying the human race. Hey, it’s all in a day’s work for Big Red.

2008 U.S. Presidential election

quoteI prefer Obama to McCain. Now, McCain’s better than average for a Republican. And though his ads are intellectually offensive, he’s just bowing to his campaign masters and would calm down and be more sane once in office and not campaigning. But I have a few concerns with McCain on foreign policy. He’s not a full-fledged Neocon. That’s good. He opposed Reagan on Lebanon. Good. He was critical of Bush’s initial strategy in Iraq. That’s good. But there’s a problem. He thinks the Vietnam war was winnable and that the US shouldn’t have withdrawn. He’s also eager to spread democracy with force. This just isn’t a good set of beliefs for inheriting Iraq.quote
