clonewarssmall.jpgThe official Star Wars site has given us a closer look at the character design for the upcoming Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated television show.

Supervising director Dave Filoni has revealed that in order to reach a middle ground between the film characters and the Cartoon Network animated characters, the Gentle Giant maquettes were a source of inspiration.  ‘We’re going to have the characters be somewhat stylized, somewhat graphic, but still have some of the photorealism that you see in the films. This way they live in their own reality where you’re not expecting it to be photo-real — but it’s not cartoony and not overly exaggerated either. So they live in a believable level of realism.’

iamlegend_lead.jpgJoBlo.com, reporting from the I am Legend panel at Comic-Con has returned with some new information on the upcoming movie adaptation of Richard Matheson’s classic book. The main points are as follows:

  • The new film will not have any nods/winks to the two previous cinematic incarnations: Omega Man and The Last Man on Earth. Screenwriter Protosevich said that this film would have ‘real intensity and seriousness’.
  • Although the creatures in the movie are allergic to sunlight and crave blood, they are never referred to as vampires.

michaelhaguesmall.jpgWarner Bros. and Akiva Goldsman’s Weed Road Pictures has acquired screen rights to the Michael Hague graphic novel In the Small, reports Variety.

The story revolves around a strange explosion that leaves everything else in the world intact but shrinks all humans to six inches tall. The survivors are forced to transition to a new social order in which man is no longer at the top of the food chain — and is confronted by a new and greater existential threat.

Hague is an American illustrator, primarily of children’s fantasy books. Among the books he has illustrated are classics such as The Wind in the Willows, The Wizard of Oz and the stories of Hans Christian Andersen.

jkrowlingsmall.jpgWEN reports that Harry Potter author JK Rowling has not been lounging around with her feet up since the publication of the concluding episode of her seven book series was released this month.

I’m sort of writing two things at the moment‘ said Rowling ‘One is for children and the other is not for children. The weird thing is that this is exactly the way I started writing Harry… I was writing two things simultaneously for a year before Harry took over. So one will oust the other in due course, and I’ll know that’s my next thing.’

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was released on July 21st.

The Impending Oil Crisis

quote I am a little leary of the situation. The truth will come out when, and if the US economy, and the dollar begins to strengthen. If prices remain high, you’ll know someone is lying. Either OPEC doesn’t have the supply they claim they have, or Analysts are incorrect when they say demand has decreased. Personally, I don’t buy the claim that demand has decreased. Population is ever increasing, so, the the demand should always be increasing. quote
