Here’s a reminder that Danny Boyle’s (Trainspotting, 28 Days Later) science-fiction thriller Sunshine has, after much delay, finally made its way into movie-houses in the United States, where it starts playing tomorrow (July 20).
Starring Cillian Murphy, Rose Byrne, Chris Evans, Michelle Yeoh and Cliff Curtis, the film is set in a future 50 years from now. The sun is dying, and Earth has fallen into an eternal winter. An international team of austronauts and scientists are on a mission to reignite the dwindling star by shooting a nuclear bomb into its heart. But with the vastness of space and the sheer enormity of the sun weighing down on their minds, they soon find themselves not only fighting for their lives, but for their sanity as well.

7/11s masquerading as Kwik-E-Marts were seemingly only the beginning of Fox’s devious marketing campaign for the upcoming The Simpsons Movie (which X-Realms has seen, laughed with/at, and will have reviewed shortly), as a 180ft long paint outline of Homer Simpson waving a Doughnut in a grassfield has caused some controversy.
Homer was painted alongside the 17th Century Cerne Abbas giant (who symbolizes fertility), who’s chalk outline can be seen in the hillside above Dorset. According to The Sun (and we’re only reporting news originating from that rag because they’ve included photographic evidence), Dorset locals are calling the Homer painting very ‘disrespectful’ and ‘aesthetically displeasing’. How fortunate, then, that the thing will come off as soon as it rains, thanks to being painted with water-based biodegradable paint.
The movie opens in theaters next week on Friday, July 27th.

Rumours circulating back in January suggested that Silent Hill director Christophe Gans had commissioned screenwriters Roger Avary and Neil Gaiman (who jointly penned the script to the upcoming Beowulf) to write a sequel for the video game adaptation.
Gaiman quickly dispelled any notions of him being involved on a Silent Hill 2 film, and an interview with Avary on ShockTillYouDrop.com now reveals that he and Gans aren’t involved either. Avary said that he won’t do it because Gans is not on board. This news means that it is unclear whether a sequel will go into production at all.
