The Amsterdam Cinema Expo launched with an impassioned declaration of intent by Dreamworks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, who said that all of his animation projects released in 2009 will be in 3-D reports Variety.
‘It (3-D) is an experience unlike anything we have seen before. It is not a gimmick, not a trick. It is not your dad’s 3-D … It is the most exciting development in cinema in 60 years.’
Katzenberg predicted that ‘a large portion of tentpoles will migrate to 3-D’, thanks to the leadership of the ‘alphas of the moviemaking group’ — James Cameron, Robert Zemeckis, Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg. Katzenberg also added that Michael Bay and Ron Howard amongst others are set to move into the 3-D arena.

The ambitious project took a big step closer to reality last week when husband and wife writing duo Kieran Mulroney and Michele Mulroney turned in a first draft that impressed executives at Warner Bros.
The picture, which would include several well-known superheroes including Superman and Batman could even appear before Superman: Man of Steel, which still hasn’t got a script.

About 30 seconds after last Tuesdays weekly games news round up went online the news broke that Manhunt 2 for the PS2 and Wii had been refused a certificate by the BBFC (the UK’s entertainment certification body) meaning that it would be illegal to sell the game in the territory with the third largest games market.
Shortly after that the game was given the ‘Death Sentence’ AO certificate by the ESRB in the USA the result of which would be major stockists such as Walmart not having the game on their shelves. On Wednesday Rockstar released a statement standing by their software but unfortunately Sony and Nintendo didn’t feel the same way and both companies disowned the project, saying that they didn’t want anything to do with the game. No surprise then that by Thursday, Take 2 had announced that the July 10th release date of Manhunt 2 had been delayed.

According to Variety, the German Defense Ministry has prohibited the Berlin shoot of Valkyrie, the new WWII film from X-Men and Superman Returns director Bryan Singer, which was scheduled to start lensing next month.
The ban is due to actor Tom Cruise’s affiliation with Scientology, which Germany has branded an exploitative, profit-based business concern, as opposed to a religion. Cruise toplines the film with Kenneth Branagh and Bill Nighy.
A spokesperson for United Artists, where the project is set up, gave the following statement: ‘Mr. Cruise’s personal beliefs have absolutely no bearing on the movie’s plot, themes or content. And even though we could shoot the movie anywhere in the world, we believe Germany is the only place we can truly do the story justice.’ The studio insists that production will go ahead and that filming will place in Germany, with shooting locations to be confirmed.
