broadbentsmall.jpgA source at AICN has claimed that Jim Broadbent, the Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA-winning English theatre, film and television actor has been cast in Indiana Jones IV.

Apparently the British actor will be playing a similar character to Denholm Elliott’s Marcus Brody from Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989).

The fourth outing for the adventurous archaeologist which is being called in some quarters, Indiana Jones and the City of the Gods, will hit theatres on May 22, 2008.

batcyclesmall.jpgThe LA Times has given us our first glimpse of the new Batcycle from Chris Nolan’s The Dark Knight.

The ‘Batpod’ is a fully working motorbike with grappling hooks, cannons and machine guns. The front and rear tires are a massive 508 millimeters, and the engines are in the hubs of each wheel. Steering is done by the shoulder as there aren’t handlebars with shields that fit each arm like sleeves and have the ability to rotate around the bike’s frame. The two foot pegs are set 3 1/2 feet apart on either side of the tank, which the rider lies on, belly down. That tank also moves up and down.

'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' theatrical posterPreviews of all the tracks on the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix soundtrack are now available on SoundtrackNet.

The soundclips run for thirty seconds, and the site also provides a track-by-track analysis of the entire score, which was composed by BAFTA-winner Nicholas Hooper (who took over the duty from John Williams and Patrick Doyle). The analysis notes that “Hedwig’s Theme” (the film series’ key theme) has been retained for key moments, but that Hooper has added two prominent themes of his own: the Professor Umbridge theme and the Possession theme.

Click here to preview the soundtrack (which is released July 10), but be warned that the track titles contain plot spoilers.

Maggie Gyllenhaal on the set of ‘The Dark Knight’The first pictures of Aaron Eckhart and Maggie Gyllenhaal from the set of The Dark Knight have appeared online.

A fortunate bystander took the photos from his office near the film’s Chicago set and posted them on Flickr. Eckhart plays district attorney Harvey Dent, while Gyllenhaal took over the role of Rachel Dawes from Katie Holmes. The images give a good impression of how Gyllenhaal’s hair and make-up match that of Holmes’ in Batman Begins.

The Batman Begins sequel hits cinemas July 18, 2008.

'Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer' theatrical posterFox’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer topped the US box office this weekend with $57.4 million in ticket sales, reports Variety.

The superhero sequel thus narrowly outgrossed the $56 million the first Fantastic Four debuted with in 2005, contradicting tracking data that indicated the latest Marvel comic book adaptation would fall short of its predecessor’s opening weekend.

startreksmall.jpgOne half of the Star Trek writing team Robert Orci has been talking to IESB about progress on the upcoming movie.

Orci said that the movie, intended to reboot the flagging franchise, begins shooting in November and casting is now taking place. Apparently significant casting decisions will be made soon with announcements expected at San Diego Comic-Con 2007 in July.

The ten previous Star Trek films have grossed over $1 billion worldwide. The new installment will focus on the adventures of a young Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock. JJ Abrams is directing the film in addition to handling production duties with his Lost co-creator Damon Lindeloff.

inkblotsmall.jpgPaddy Considine has confirmed that he will not be playing the role of Rorschach in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen.

Instead, it now appears that Jackie Earle Haley could be set to play the inkblot mask-wearing superhero. Haley is an Academy Award-nominated American actor who is best known for his portrayal of Kelly Leak, the motorcycle-riding, cigarette-smoking little leaguer in The Bad News Bears and its sequels.

Watchmen is set in an alternative 1985, where the US is on the verge on nuclear conflict with the Soviet Union. It tells the story of a group of past and present superheroes and the events surrounding the mysterious murder of one of their own. Watchmen depicts superheroes as real people who must confront ethical and personal issues, who struggle with neuroses and failings, and who - with one notable exception - lack anything recognizable as super powers.

diablosmall.jpgThe Legendary Pictures website is listing a Diablo movie amongst its roster of ‘in-development’ projects.

As the studio are also planning to bring World Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft to cinemas, one can safely assume that the Diablo movie will be based upon ther video game developer’s other fantasy franchise.

Diablo is a dark fantasy-themed hack and slash action-adventure game developed by Blizzard North and released by Blizzard Entertainment in December, 1996. Set in the fictional Kingdom of Khanduras, the game sees the player take control of a lone hero as he or she battles to rid the town of Tristram of the titular Lord of Terror and his demon minions.

The Impending Oil Crisis

quote I am a little leary of the situation. The truth will come out when, and if the US economy, and the dollar begins to strengthen. If prices remain high, you’ll know someone is lying. Either OPEC doesn’t have the supply they claim they have, or Analysts are incorrect when they say demand has decreased. Personally, I don’t buy the claim that demand has decreased. Population is ever increasing, so, the the demand should always be increasing. quote
