pirates3_lead1.jpgRather predictably, and despite some unkind reviews, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End has broadsided the global box office, raking in an astonishing $126.5 domestically and $205.5 million internationally in 102 markets reports Variety.

With takings bolstered by a limited US release on thursday, the third installment of the swashbuckling trilogy inspired by a Disney theme park attraction is on track to be the biggest four-day Memorial Day weekend opener ever, beating out the last pic in the X-Men series.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End performed astonishingly well in the U.K. over the bank holiday weekend, taking $25.8 million. The film has yet to open in India and China.

surfercoin.jpgThe marketing guys at 20th Century Fox have truly come up with something original to promote the upcoming Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer reports Variety.

In an unprecedented move, Fox and Franklin Mint have created a Silver Surfer U.S. quarter that has been put into limited circulation in advance of the movie’s release on June 15. 40,000 of these coins (which are legal tender) have been  released into the currency stream after being distributed around the US in special silver armored trucks. One side of the quarter features a colour-enhanced image of the Silver Surfer accompanied by the name of the movie’s Web site.

Those lucky enough to discover one of the coins can go to the Web site and take part in the Search 4 Silver campaign, including registering to win a trip for four to the world premier of the movie in London.

The Impending Oil Crisis

quote I am a little leary of the situation. The truth will come out when, and if the US economy, and the dollar begins to strengthen. If prices remain high, you’ll know someone is lying. Either OPEC doesn’t have the supply they claim they have, or Analysts are incorrect when they say demand has decreased. Personally, I don’t buy the claim that demand has decreased. Population is ever increasing, so, the the demand should always be increasing. quote
