bradpittsmall1.jpgChinadaily reports that an article in the British tabloid press suggesting that Brad Pitt is being considered by Superman Returns moviemakers to take the lead in He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is untrue.

Pitt’s publicist Cindy Guagenti has told The Celebrity Truth that reports claiming Pitt’s association with the project are ‘completely not true’.

IGN has reported that the office of the CEO at Legendary Pictures has ‘adamantly denied the entire report when contacted by IGN for comment, advising us that they have nothing to do with He-Man’.

shazamsmall.jpgComingsoon reports that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson may take the square-jawed lead in Shazam!, the ucpcoming movie based on the DC comic book of the same name.

Apparently Johnson has had talks with director Peter Segal (who he is currently working with on Get Smart) about teaming up again for the project.

Shazam! was created in 1939 by artist C.C. Beck and writer Bill Parker and focuses on Billy Batson, a teenager who becomes the superhero known as Captain Marvel (not to be confused with the Marvel version) when he utters the magic word ‘Shazam!’ The name is an acronym for six gods and heroes of the ancient world as well as their attributes: the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Aries, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles and the speed of Mercury.

megalopolissmall.jpgIn an interview with AICN, veteran director Francis Ford Coppola gave an update on his stalled sci-fi epic Megalopolis.

‘I have abandoned that as of now.‘ said Coppola, ‘I’m now going to…I plan to begin a process of making one personal movie after another and if something leads me back to look at that, which I’m sure it might, I’ll see what makes sense to me.’

Coppola made his three 90’s studio pictures: Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Jack and The Rainmaker in order to raise the necessary finances to produce his dream project before the events of 9/11 put paid to his plans. . The setting for the movie is intended to be modern New York and it would deal with the idea that the future world we’re going to live in is being negotiated today.  Reportedly hours of second unit footage is said to exist and names likes Nicolas Cage, Russell Crowe, Robert De Niro, Paul Newman, Parker Posey, and Kevin Spacey have all been attached to the project at one time or another.

ongbak2small.jpgThe international sales rights for a big budget sequel to the 2003 Thai martial arts movie Ong Bak are back on the table after the Weinstein Co. loosened its grip on a $10 million deal struck in March 2006.

The Weinstein Co will retain the North American license but will hand back rights in other territories to Sahamongkolfilm International who will restart sales at Cannes. Neither company offered an explanation for the reconfigured deal but sources suggest that it is due to the softening of world DVD markets and the fact that Ong Bak 2 is chronologically not a sequel, being a period piece rather than a contemporary action picture.

Ong Bak 2 sets Tony Jaa as a young man on a journey that teaches him both the skills and inner meaning of martial arts. The movie, which has started shooting is also helmed by the Muay Thai martial arts phenomenon.

terminatorsmall.jpgVariety reports that although Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron will not be involved, there will definitely be a fourth Terminator movie.

Halcyon Co. has purchased all rights to the franchise from its feuding creators, Mario Kassar and Andrew Vajna, for an undisclosed amount giving them the right to produce films, future merchandising and licensing ventures. The fourth outing for the sc-fi cyborg franchise will be written by T3 writers John Brancato and Michael Ferris with Moritz Borman, exec producer on the last episode handling production duties. Though no director or cast has yet been secured, Terminator 4 is tentatively scheduled for a summer 2009 release.

2008 U.S. Presidential election

quoteI prefer Obama to McCain. Now, McCain’s better than average for a Republican. And though his ads are intellectually offensive, he’s just bowing to his campaign masters and would calm down and be more sane once in office and not campaigning. But I have a few concerns with McCain on foreign policy. He’s not a full-fledged Neocon. That’s good. He opposed Reagan on Lebanon. Good. He was critical of Bush’s initial strategy in Iraq. That’s good. But there’s a problem. He thinks the Vietnam war was winnable and that the US shouldn’t have withdrawn. He’s also eager to spread democracy with force. This just isn’t a good set of beliefs for inheriting Iraq.quote
