ethanhawkesmall.jpgThe Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Ethan Hawke is set to star in Lionsgate’s futuristic sc-fi vampire film Daybreakers.

The project, to be written directed by the all-Aussie team of Peter and Michael Spierig begins shooting in July in Australia, with Weta Workshop onboard to produce the creature effects.

Hawke will play a researcher in the year 2017, when a plague has transformed most of the world’s population into vampires. As the human population nears extinction, vampires must capture and farm every remaining human or find a blood substitute before time runs out. Meanwhile, a covert group of vampires makes a discovery that has the power to save the human race.

fanglandsmall.jpgThe New York Post reports that Hilary Swank will play the heroine being hunted by vampires in the movie adaptation of the John Marks novel Fangland.

The story involves Evangeline Harker’s journey to Romania on behalf of a TV news magazine show to scout out a possible story on a notorious Eastern European crime boss named Ion Torgu. Once there she discovers that the true nature of Torgu’s activities is far more monstrous than anything her young journalist’s mind could have imagined.

Swank’s production company optioned the book by the former 60 Minutes producer with the modern day spin on the Dracula story yet to get a release date.

thehobbitsmall.jpgA source at AICN has thrown a new name into The Hobbit melting pot.

With Peter Jackson still at loggerheads with studio bosses and after the lukewarm critical reception of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, the source suggests that Master and Commander helmer Peter Weir could be in the frame. The Australian film director has also directed Gallipoli, Witness, The Mosquito Coast,  Dead Poets Society and The Truman Show in a career that stretches back to the early seventies.

Although the source of this information cannot be verified, it’s an interesting tidbit nevertheless.

theabominationsmall.jpgVariety reports that Tim Roth is joining Edward Norton and Liv Tyler in The Incredible Hulk.

Roth will play Emil Blonsky, the alter ego of arch villain The Abomination in the Louis Leterrier-directed film, which is being financed by Marvel Studios and distributed by Universal Pictures on June 13, 2008.

Blonsky is a KGB agent who deliberately exposes himself to the gamma rays that caused Bruce Banner to morph into the Hulk. Blonsky has upped the dosage, making him larger and stronger than the Hulk, but unable to change back to human form. He blames Banner for his problem, and makes his best efforts to destroy the Hulk. The new movie’s story unfolds when the pursuit for The Hulk - the world’s most misunderstood, primal force of fury - heats up, finding Bruce Banner on the run attempting to cure his condition before his pursuers capture him.

georgelucassmall.jpgIt is being widely reported that during an all-star Time magazine dinner for the 100 most influential people, Star Wars creator George Lucas told FOXNews that there will be two more live action Star Wars movies.

‘they won’t have members of the Skywalker family as characters,‘ he said, ‘they will be other people of that milieu.‘  The two movies will apparently be made for TV and will probably be an hour long each. The X-Realms assumes that the bearded one is talking about the upcoming live action TV series and that the FOX reporter has relayed the information incorrectly. However, we’d love to be proved wrong.

In addition to this, Lucas also commented on the phenomenally successful Spider-Man 3, saying ‘It’s silly. It’s a silly movie, there just isn’t much there. Once you take it all apart, there’s not much story, is there?’

landofthelostsmall.jpgAs rumours circulate about Robert Rodruigez potentially directing a live action version of The Jetsons for Warner Bros, there is also talk about another project called Land of the Lost.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that Rodriguez has met with Will Ferrell and a Universal executive to discuss helming a movie based upon the 1970s Sid and Marty Krofft fantasy TV series.

The original NBC television network revolved around the adventures of a family of three (father Rick Marshall, son Will and younger daughter Holly) who were trapped in an eclectic alien world inhabited by dinosaurs, chimpanzee-like cavemen called Pakuni, and aggressive, humanoid creatures called Sleestak that have a mix of insectoid and reptilian characteristics. The plot focused primarily on the family’s efforts to survive and find a way back to their own world. The movie version is scheduled for release in 2008.

residentevilsmall.jpgIGN have published a very Tombraider-like teaser poster for the upcoming Resident Evil: Extinction. Click here to see the poster in our movie galleries.

The post-apocalyptic science fiction movie is a sequel to the 2004 film Resident Evil: Apocalypse and the third installment in a series of film adaptations based on the popular Capcom survival horror game series Resident Evil.

The story picks up where the last film left off. Alice (Milla Jovovich), now in hiding in the Nevada desert, once again joins forces with Carlos Olivera (Oded Fehr) and L.J. (Mike Epps), along with new survivors Claire (Ali Larter), K-Mart (Spencer Locke) and Nurse Betty (Ashanti) to try to eliminate the deadly virus that threatens to make every human being undead… and to seek justice. Since being captured by the Umbrella Corporation, Alice has been subjected to biogenic experimentation and becomes genetically altered, with super-human strengths, senses and dexterity. These skills, and more, will be needed if anyone is to remain alive.

harrpottersmall.jpgSales of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the final instalment in the Harry Potter series has become the fastest book ever to reach global advance sales of one million on Amazon reports The Telegraph.

With advance sales outperforming the remainder of Amazon’s Top 20 combined by a rate of five to one, Christopher North, of Amazon, said ‘Every step of the way we’ve seen Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows not only outsell but blow away sales of the sixth book.’

The first copies of the books aren’t due to hit the shelves for another two months but booksellers are predicting that Pottermania will continue to grow. ‘We are pretty optimistic that it will shatter more records and beat the 1.5 million pre-sales of the last book’ added North.

The Impending Oil Crisis

quote I am a little leary of the situation. The truth will come out when, and if the US economy, and the dollar begins to strengthen. If prices remain high, you’ll know someone is lying. Either OPEC doesn’t have the supply they claim they have, or Analysts are incorrect when they say demand has decreased. Personally, I don’t buy the claim that demand has decreased. Population is ever increasing, so, the the demand should always be increasing. quote
