indyivsmall1.jpgCinema Blend reports that various sources including Staffers at JoBlo are suggesting that Indy IV may have a title. At this stage it’s not known whether this is purely a working title or something to throw people off the scent, but they’ve come up with Indiana Jones and the City of the Gods.

If this is indeed a legitimate title one would assume that it refers to Teotihuacan, the ‘City of the Gods’ which is one of the most important archaeological sites in Mexico, with a population of than 100,000 people in 350 AD, making it the sixth largest city in the world at the time.

'The Children of Hurin' book coverThe new book by Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien (completed by his son Christopher based on old manuscripts), The Children of Hurin, goes on sale today, and already Hollywood studios have shown an interest in purchasing the rights to have it filmed, reports Reuters.

David Brown, the director at Tolkien publisher HarperCollins, prefers not to look too far ahead yet: ‘We all want this first and foremost to enjoy life as a book. No one’s saying never to a film (but) the film rights are reserved by the [Tolkien] estate. We want to see what reaction it gets and then let it run its course.’

The story, already told in fragments in the 1977 release The Silmarillion, set long before The Lord of the Rings in a part of Middle-earth that was drowned before Hobbits ever appeared, and tells the tragic tale of Turin and his sister Nienor who are cursed by Morgoth, the first Dark Lord.

jokersmall.jpgBatman on Film reports that the celluloid version of the Joker will have a distinctive new look in The Dark Knight.

An insider has told them that the Joker will have ‘gray skin with lots of scarring‘ which may or may not look similar to the picture (right) from Batman #663. They also add that director Chris Nolan is going for a more scary approach, rather than Joker’s familiar clownish look.

The Joker’s outfit will be ‘raggedy, like something he just threw together without stopping to make sure everything matched

raimismall.jpgThe Hollywood Reporter says that Columbia Pictures has pre-emptively picked up a high-concept fantasy movie from writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift for Sam Raimi and Josh Donen to produce through their Buckaroo Entertainment banner.

The untitled project is described as ‘an all-ages fantasy movie that centers on a cynical guy from New York who is forced to go to a land untouched by modern civilization to save a village and a princess from fiendish fairy tale creatures‘.

shawnlevysmall.jpgNight at the Museum director Shawn Levy has been recruited to direct The Seems reports Variety.

The project will be based on John Hulme and Mike Wexler’s upcoming books series and the authors will also write the script for 20th Century Fox. The feature will be based on the first installment of a planned series called The Seems: The Glitch in Sleep which will be published by Bloomsbury USA later this year.

The story revolves around a parallel world where everything that humans take for granted is manufactured and designed. When a glitch occurs, a young boy is drafted to correct it and save the world.

thehobbit_lead.jpgSam Raimi has told Entertainment Weekly that he would only be interested in directing The Hobbit if Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson approved.

Peter Jackson might be the best filmmaker on the planet right now,‘ said Raimi ‘But, um, I don’t know what’s going to happen next for me right now. First and foremost, those are Peter Jackson and Bob Shaye’s [head of New Line Cinema] films. If Peter didn’t want to do it, and Bob wanted me to do it—and they were both OK with me picking up the reins—that would be great. I love the book. It’s maybe a more kid-friendly story than the others.’

If Raimi did decide to take on the Tolkien adaptation it would have to happen soon because New Line/MGM only has the rights for a limited amount of time.  This would obviously force Columbia to push back Spider-Man 4 or find a new director for the franchise.

With more creatures than the Star Wars cantina, Hellboy and his cohorts set about trying to stop an Elf prince from destroying the human race. Hey, it’s all in a day’s work for Big Red.

2008 U.S. Presidential election

quoteI prefer Obama to McCain. Now, McCain’s better than average for a Republican. And though his ads are intellectually offensive, he’s just bowing to his campaign masters and would calm down and be more sane once in office and not campaigning. But I have a few concerns with McCain on foreign policy. He’s not a full-fledged Neocon. That’s good. He opposed Reagan on Lebanon. Good. He was critical of Bush’s initial strategy in Iraq. That’s good. But there’s a problem. He thinks the Vietnam war was winnable and that the US shouldn’t have withdrawn. He’s also eager to spread democracy with force. This just isn’t a good set of beliefs for inheriting Iraq.quote
