Celeb gossip site Just Jared says that Orlando Bloom may be up for a role in the Superman Returns sequel. Apparently the British actor was spotted talking Superman: The Man of Steel with director Bryan Singer and producers Mindy and Jon Peters.
With rumors that Lex Luthor will be absent from the next chapter and that it could feature more action with ‘multiple villains’, there is plenty of scope to cast the Pirates of the Caribbean star in a number of different roles. After whispers that suggested Jude Law would be playing General Zod in the project were apparently ‘disproven’ by a source in October last year, the rumor mill will no doubt once again grind into action.

The X-Realms now has a new gallery devoted to the artwork from upcoming Tolkien book The Children of Hurin.
The book, which will be published on April 17 is based on incomplete drafts written by J.R.R. Tolkien and edited by Christopher Tolkien. The earliest versions of the story by J.R.R. Tolkien go back to the end of the First World War and the years that followed; but long afterwards, when The Lord of the Rings was finished, he wrote it anew and greatly enlarged it in complexities of motive and character: it became the dominant story in his later work on Middle-earth. But he could not bring it to final and finished form. His son, Christopher has constructed, after long study of the manuscripts, a coherent narrative without any editorial invention.
The tale is set in Middle-earth from times long before The Lord of the Rings, and the story told is set in the great country that lay beyond the Grey Havens in the West: lands where Treebeard once walked, but which were drowned in the great cataclysm that ended the First Age of the World.

Pictures from the inside of a promotional booklet for The Golden Compass (intended for the film’s cast and crew) that recently found its way onto eBay have appeared on BridgeToTheStars.net.
It seems the fan who bought the item photographed the wealth of new image material contained inside the booklet for all to see: new stills of Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig as Mrs. Coulter and Lord Asriel, lots of impressions of Dakota Blue Richards as Lyra, the Gyptians, the abducted children, the Alethiometer and the spyfly, concept art of various daemons and much more. Deadlinehollywooddaily reports that Harvey Weinstein is so ‘incredibly disappointed‘ with the poor opening weekend for Grindhouse that he’s considering abandoning the double feature concept and re-releasing the Tarantino/Rodriguez faux exploitation movie around the U.S. ‘in a couple of weeks‘ as two separate feature-length movies with additional footage.
Weinstein was scathing about the marketing plan saying that although Grindhouse played well in urban settings, they failed to educate the South or Midwest. In addition to this, reportedly some American audiences were totally perplexed by the aged look of the film, the missing reel conceit and the fake trailer. After complaints were received, in some locations booklets were handed out prior to the screening of the movie or an usher explained to the audience that the these elements were a deliberate part of the experience.

With Green Hornet movie Supermax and Here, there be Dragons in development, Batman Begins writer David Goyer seems to have a lot on his plate, but this isn’t holding him back from working on his updated version of David Cronenberg’s classic SF-horror film Scanners.
Goyer explained to Sci-Fi Wire that the remake will expand on the 1981 original and place it in the context of current events. ‘One of the … things that’s also great about Scanners was the fact that Cronenberg embeds so much subtext into his stories,‘ said Goyer ‘So we’ve tried to keep the spirit of that and kind of transpose that into a post-9/11 world, if you can imagine what Scanners would be involved in in that kind of world. That’s what we’re attempting to do here.‘
Scanners will be directed by Saw II director Darren Lynn Bousman with production starting in early 2008.

Warner Bros. Pictures has released a new still from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, opening July 13.
The photo features Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and Dolores Umbridge (Imelda Staunton) in the new professor’s (horribly, but suitably pink) office. Fans of the books will recognize this scene as the one in which the back of Harry’s writing hand is painfully scarred, over and over again. Click here to view the image in our movie gallery.
