pottersmall.jpgIn order to keep plot details secret for the seventh Harry Potter book, Scholastic, the US publisher is laying down strict guidelines for library employess handling the book prior to its July 21st release date reports the Associated Press.

The publisher’s contract states that libraries must provide names and contact information for each branch manager and that failure to comply will could result in the recipients being refused future embargoed titles.

The 12 million US editions of final book in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, are to be printed on partially recycled paper Scholastic said last month.

alienssmall.jpgA movie memorabilia auction last night in California raked in more than $2 million as collectors and investors fought to secure items from a number of classic films.

A creature suit designed by H.R. Giger for Ridley Scott’s Alien was sold for the top price of $126,5000 and Christopher Reeve’s costume from Superman: The Movie came in a close second at $115,000. Other high profile items included the Wolverine hero claws worn by Hugh Jackman in X2: X-Men United ($40,250), an early Leonard Nimoy Spock tunic from the first season of Star Trek ($34,500) and Val Kilmer’s Batman costume from Batman Forever ($63.250).

The auction was held in Calabasas Hills, California by the auction house Profiles in History.

southlandtalessmall.jpgIt seems that the long-delayed apocalyptic Sci-Fi epic Southland Tales will be completed ready for screenings this summer.

Director Richard Kelly has revealed on his blog that Sony has given him a green light to finish the film’s visual FX after he slashed down the running time by half an hour to two hours and 17 minutes following mixed reviews at Cannes.

Southland Tales stars Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Sarah Michelle Gellar and is set in near-future Los Angeles on the eve of an unnamed disaster.

marvsmall.jpgA source at Comingsoon.net reports that after the release of Sin City 2, the comic book franchise may continue on the small screen.

During an interview on the PBS ‘The Charlie Rose Show’, director Robert Rodriguez said that Sin City 2 would probably begin shooting in June and that Sin City would probably continue in some form on television. With George Lucas proclaiming that ‘television is the future’ and with his own live action show in development, this doesn’t sound so outlandish.

The Sin City series of comics created by Frank Miller are told in a film noir-like style. The first story originally appeared in Dark Horse Presents comic book from April of 1991 to June of 1992, under the title of Sin City, serialized in thirteen parts. Several other stories of variable lengths have followed. All stories take place in Basin City, with frequent recurring characters and intertwining stories.

2008 U.S. Presidential election

quoteI prefer Obama to McCain. Now, McCain’s better than average for a Republican. And though his ads are intellectually offensive, he’s just bowing to his campaign masters and would calm down and be more sane once in office and not campaigning. But I have a few concerns with McCain on foreign policy. He’s not a full-fledged Neocon. That’s good. He opposed Reagan on Lebanon. Good. He was critical of Bush’s initial strategy in Iraq. That’s good. But there’s a problem. He thinks the Vietnam war was winnable and that the US shouldn’t have withdrawn. He’s also eager to spread democracy with force. This just isn’t a good set of beliefs for inheriting Iraq.quote
