Stephen Fry in 'V For Vendetta'According to filmick, British comedian Stephen Fry will be scripting Dambusters for producer Peter Jackson and director Christian Rivers. Fry apparently announced the news during ITV’s press conference for their new drama series Kingdom (in which Fry plays a country solicitor) on Friday.

Dambusters chronicles the story of Operation Chastise, a top-secret Royal Air Force bombing mission designed to strike a decisive blow against the seemingly invincible Nazi war machine at the height of its aggression. The film is inspired by actual events and based on the book The Dam Busters by Paul Brickhill and the 1955 Associated British Picture Corporation motion picture.

XerxesIt was inevitable, we guess. Even if the outcome of the events in 300 mirrors that of those in The Departed (you’ll know what that means if you’ve seen at least one of either films), the unexpectedly ferocious success of Zack Snyder’s film at the box office has naturally sparked talk of a sequel.

An article on Variety discussing 300’s technological triumph briefly mentions the fact Frank Miller, the creator of the graphic novel Snyder’s film is based on, has already begun work: ‘Miller is also prepping a follow-up to 300 based on another mythic tale from Greek history, but he won’t divulge details.’

Robert De Niro as Captain ShakespeareNeil Gaiman’s fun little fantasy novel Stardust is getting the movie treatment at the hands of Layer Cake director Matthew Vaughn, and even though the film is set to be released in a couple of months (August in the US, October in the UK), there hasn’t been much in the way of promotional footage - yet.

Finally, the Russian film site Kino Express is the first to reveal some moving images from Stardust with one full scene (which sets up the plot) and a couple of exciting clips made available. Click here to view the footage. The movie stars the likes of Charlie Cox, Claire Danes, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert De Niro, Sienna Miller, Rupert Everett, Peter O’Toole, Ricky Gervais and the voice of Ian McKellen.

emmawatsonsmall.jpgDigital Spy reports that Emma Watson, who has played Hermione Granger in all of the Harry Potter movies to date has decided not to sign up for the final two movies. The story, originating from the News of the World says that Watson has told producers that she wants to try other roles and has turned down a new £2 million-per-movie offer.

The tabloid paper claims that it has received confirmation from Warner Brothers that Emma has not signed up for the final films and has published a quote from fellow actor Rupert Grint saying ‘She’s tired of being known as ‘that girl from Harry Potter. Daniel and I are distant from her now. We don’t text or talk to her when we are not filming’.

Sounds like she’s holding out for a fatter paycheck to us.

300Zack Snyder’s graphic novel adaptation 300 leads the US box office again in its second week of release, taking in another $31.2 million which put Touchstone’s Wild Hogs ($18.8m) and Sony’s Premonition ($18m) in second and third place respectively.

The weekend figure brings 300’s domestic tally up to a staggering $127.5 million, further defying previous estimates that forecasted success at a much lower level of revenue due to the film’s R rating. WarnerBros. expects the film to reach $200 million in the US.

The Impending Oil Crisis

quote I am a little leary of the situation. The truth will come out when, and if the US economy, and the dollar begins to strengthen. If prices remain high, you’ll know someone is lying. Either OPEC doesn’t have the supply they claim they have, or Analysts are incorrect when they say demand has decreased. Personally, I don’t buy the claim that demand has decreased. Population is ever increasing, so, the the demand should always be increasing. quote
