A source at Film Fodder has revealed that Quentin Tarantino has officially begun pre-production on Hell Ride, another quasi-exploitation picture in the vein of Grindhouse.
Hell Ride will begin shooting in late April and will star Laura Cayouette (Kill Bill: Vol. 2) and Michael Madsen. The tale of motorcycle revenge and retribution will be directed by biker-movie veteran Larry Bishop.

Warner Bros. and Initial Entertainment Group have secured the movie rights to Brian Selznick’s The Invention of Hugo Cabret as a potential directing vehicle for Martin Scorsese reports Variety. The original book is part novel and part picture book, with nearly three hundred pages of pictures.
The story is about a twelve-year-old orphan, clock keeper and thief called Hugo who lives in the walls of a busy Paris train station where his survival depends on secrets and anonymity. But when his world suddenly interlocks with an eccentric girl and the owner of a small toy booth in the train station, Hugo’s undercover life, and his most precious secret are put in jeapardy.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, George Clooney and Cate Blanchett are in talks to voice the lead characters (Mr and Mrs Fox) in Fantastic Mr. Fox.
The film is being produced under the direction of Wes Anderson (Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums) and will be shot will be shot primarily using the stop motion techniques designed by Henry Selick. Selick is best known for directing The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach.
The movie is based upon a children’s book written by British author Roald Dahl which tells the story of a crafty fox who finds himself and his family targeted for death by the three dumb, pug-ugly farmers who tire of sharing their chickens with him.

Japan’s TBS web is making two sequels to its smash action/fantasy movie Dororo. With a four week domestic gross approaching Y3 billion ($25.2 million), Dororo is Japan’s biggest hit of the new year. Universal has purchased all North American rights for the first film and will release it sometime in 2007.
Producer Takashi Hirano describes the trilogy as like ‘The Lord of the Rings’ and has set a budget for the two sequels at $50.4 million. Like Peter Jackson’s epic trilogy, Dororo was also shot in New Zealand. The stars of the first pic, Kou Shibasaki and Satoshi Tsumabuki, are clearing their schedules for the sequels.
In the first pic, Tsumabuki played a bionic warrior on a quest to recover 48 parts of his body that his warrior father had given to demons in exchange for power. Shibasaki played the femme thief who tagged after him to learn the secret of his amazing powers.

Variety reports that Warner Bros is planning to make a feature based on super team the Justice League of America, with writing team Kiernan and Michele Mulroney penning the script.
A movie has been rumored for some time, but this recruitment move signals the first significant sign of progress. At this stage the studio wouldn’t confirm which characters will appear, but the original comic featured Superman, Batman, Wonderwoman, the Flash, Green Lantern and Aquaman amongst many others.
The Justice League, sometimes called the Justice League of America or JLA for short, is a fictional DC Universe superhero team. The team first appeared in 1960 and has proved popular with fans to the present day.

New Line Cinema has recruited Irish filmmaker Neil Jordan to direct and rewrite dark fantasy Killing on Carnival Row, a project previously earmarked for Guillermo del Toro. The studio acquired the rights in late 2005, preemptively buying a spec script by Travis Beacham.
The story is set in the fictional Victorian town of Burgue where fantastical creatures vampires and faeries live alongside humans. These mythological inhabitants, subjugated by the humans, are forced into either menial or criminal lines of work to merely survive, such as drug dealing vampires and fairy prostitutes. When a serial killer begins murdering the faeries, a la Jack The Ripper, a human detective who’s been engaged in a taboo relationship with a fairy courtesan becomes the prime suspect and he sets out to clear his name by finding the true culprit.

Box Office Mojo reports that a remake of 1950s sci-fi classic The Day the Earth Stood Still is scheduled for a May 9, 2008 release.
The original 1951 features tells the story of a humanoid alien who comes to Earth to warn its leaders not to take their conflicts into space, or they will face lethal consequences. The movie was adapted by Edmund H. North from the story ‘Farewell to the Master‘ by Harry Bates, and directed by Robert Wise.

The first batch of stills from New Line’s fantasy movie Inkheart, the first adaptation of Cornelia Funke’s book trilogy have been released.
Inkheart revolves around a girl whose father has the power to bring characters from books to life by reading aloud. When a villainous ruler and his band of rogues from a children’s fable kidnap the man, his daughter and her friends, both real and imaginary, must rescue him. The movie stars Brendan Fraser, Andy Serkis, Eliza Bennett, Paul Bettany, Helen Mirren, Sienna Guillory and Jim Broadbent. Click here to view the images in our gallery.

20th Century Fox has announced that James Cameron’s Avatar will be released on Memorial Day Weekend in 2009.
Avatar tells the story of an injured ex-Marine who is unwillingly sent to settle and exploit a faraway world called Pandora. Once there he gets caught up in a battle for survival by the planet’s inhabitants, called Na’vis, and falls in love with one of them.The cast of the highly anticipated 3D sci-fi epic includes Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Wes Studi, Peter Mensah, Joel David Moore, C.C.H. Pounder and Laz Alonso.

Paramount Pictures has released the trailer for Next, a sci-fi thriller based upon the Philip K. Dick story The Golden Man.
Next stars Nicolas Cage and Julianne Moore and tells the story of Las Vegas showroom magician Cris Johnson who has a secret which is a gift and a curse which torments him: he can see a few minutes into the future. Sick of the examinations he underwent as a child and the interest of the government and medical establishment in his power, he lies low under an assumed name in Vegas, performing cheap tricks and living off small-time gambling ‘winnings.’ But when a terrorist group threatens to detonate a nuclear device in Los Angeles, government agent Callie Ferris must use all her wiles to capture Cris and convince him to help her stop the cataclysm.
