Shia LaBeoufAin’t it cool news have picked up a rumour that says the upcoming new Indiana Jones film will feature a new family member: Indy’s son, to be played by Shia LaBeouf (who stars this year in Transformers in that film’s biggest human role). AICN’s Moriarty claims he’s been starting to hear this ‘persistent rumour’ from ’some pretty reliable places’ now.

He also writes: ‘The thing is, we know Spielberg loves La Beouf right now. DISTURBIA became a pet project for The Beard, and it evidently came out well. TRANSFORMERS is a big deal for the company, and a lot of the weight of that falls squarely on the shoulders of Shia. So as much as I pray that there’s no Indy Jr., I’m starting to think that this may in fact be true.’

The HobbitNew Line Cinema and The Hobbit’s ideal director Peter Jackson are still at odds. There’s no script yet, no outline, and no definite call on which studio will distribute the film adaptation of Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings prequel. But the intent to make it is there.

New Line co-chairman Robert K. Shaye spoke with the New York Times: ‘And he would not comment on reports in the news media that the Spider-Man director Sam Raimi had been asked to direct The Hobbit. He said, however, that although there was no workable script yet for the film, he intended to release it in 2009.’ Personally, I’d hope all conflicting issues are resolved before any potential release dates are fixed.

Ghost RiderDaredevil director Mark Steven Johnson returns to the big screen with another comic book adaptation, and again delivers a very mediocre film at best. Nicolas Cage and cool effects will have the masses flocking to see Ghost Rider, but both Cage’s acting and the CGI are below par throughout most of this very uninspired ordeal.

Hot Fuzz PosterNicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) is the London Met’s top cop. He’s so good, in fact, that his arrest record is 400% higher than anyone else’s. In his boss’ own words, this is making everyone else look bad so he’s shipped off to the quiet, rural village of Sandford where there’s not much going on - oh, except for those couple of nasty, horrible “accidents.” Is Sgt Angel losing it? Or are there more to these accidents than meet the eye?

Prince CaspianPrincipal photography on the second Narnia film started last week and Walt Disney Pictures sent out the following press release, which covers all the relevant information on the film’s production, cast, crew and plot:

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, the second live-action/CGI motion picture adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ beloved series of literary classics, began principal photography on location in Auckland, New Zealand, on February 12, 2007. The production, once again a joint venture between the Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media, continues the franchise which commenced with the spectacular, Oscar-winning 2005 release, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, which went on to earn over $745 million dollars in its worldwide theatrical release, making it one of the most successful movies ever made and one of the biggest successes in the annals of the Walt Disney Studios.

Children of MenWith the Oscars approaching, the last of the various American filmmaking guilds are awarding last year’s best in their own branch of craftsmanship.

This weekend saw the ACE (American Cinema Editors) give out their Eddie award to The Departed and Babel (tied for best edited dramatic feature), and Dreamgirls (best edited comedy/musical feature), while Quentin Tarantino won the Golden Eddie for filmmaker of the year.

Meanwhile, Emmanuel Lubezki deservedly won the ASC (American Society of Cinematographers) award for his brilliant camera work on Alfonso Cuaron’s dystopian masterpiece Children of Men.

Hulk Is Hero. It has been a long and hard two years for director Louis Letterier. To bring The Incredible Hulk to the screen was not only only a huge task in terms of scale but also in terms of a media and fanbase who were protective over a character they felt had been misconstrued […]

The Impending Oil Crisis

quote I am a little leary of the situation. The truth will come out when, and if the US economy, and the dollar begins to strengthen. If prices remain high, you’ll know someone is lying. Either OPEC doesn’t have the supply they claim they have, or Analysts are incorrect when they say demand has decreased. Personally, I don’t buy the claim that demand has decreased. Population is ever increasing, so, the the demand should always be increasing. quote
