Alicia Borrachero will play PrunaprismiaFollowing the news that Ben Barnes will play the titular Prince Caspian in the upcoming second film of the Chronicles of Narnia series comes word that Spanish actress Alicia Borrachero has been cast as Prunaprismia, the wife of the evil King Miraz.

Filming on Prince Caspian commences next week in New Zealand. Director Andrew Adamson told The New Zealand Herald: “We have not yet cast King Miraz, we’re still in discussions with someone on that.” Speaking about Barnes Adamson said: “Ben is a very accomplished young man, he’s been getting a lot of good reviews lately for a play that he has on the West End. He came to us very late in the game and he just blew us away. He’s going to be a great addition to the cast. I think he’ll really fit in well with the other kids.”

barbarellasmall.jpgVariety reports that Hannibal Rising director Peter Webber will direct the new version of Barbarella for producer Dino De Laurentiis. The British helmer first came to prominence for his work on his debut feature film, Girl with a Pearl Earring.

Barbarella will shoot at Morocco’s CLA studios and De Laurentiis has described the project as “Female James Bond — in outer space”. De Laurentiis produced the original Barbarella, Queen of the Galaxy, a 1968 erotic science fiction film, based on the French Barbarella comic book created by Jean-Claude Forest. Prince CaspianAccording to Times Online, Walden Media and Disney have cast their titular hero for Prince Caspian, the second film of the Chronicles of Narnia series. Ben Barnes, who played Dakin in the National Theatre’s The History Boys, is said to have landed the role.

Apparently the National Theatre is not too happy about this. A spokesperson said: “Ben Barnes has decided to leave The History Boys early, before his contract is finished. It is something we are taking very seriously. He has accepted an offer to be in a children’s Disney film.” The paper further revealed that Barnes has signed a contract for three films.

The FlashWhile Batman Begins scribe David Goyer has announced on his MySpace page that he has abandoned The Flash, a project he was slated to write, direct and produce, Warner Bros. has now brought in Night at the Museum director Shawn Levy to take over, says the Hollywood Reporter.

The movie will be an adaptation of the DC comics speedster hero. The Flash has the ability to move at superhuman speed and time travel. Apparently, Levy was chosen as the new director to make a lighter movie than previous comic book adaptations from Warner such as Batman Begins and Superman Returns. But in spite of Levy’s portfolio (which includes Cheaper by the Dozen and Pink Panther), the studio is not aiming for a comedy. It is expected that elements of Goyer’s script will make it into Levy’s new draft.

Scorsese with the DGA awardMartin Scorsese took home the Directors Guild of America’s main award for The Departed. Scorsese beat out competition from directors Stephen Frears (The Queen), Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (Babel), Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) and Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris (Little Miss Sunshine).

His first DGA win out of seven nominations makes him the favourite to win this year’s Best Director Oscar at the Academy Awards. The DGA winner, based on votes from the 13′400 guild members, has matched the Oscar winner in 52 of the past 58 instances.

The award was presented by Steven Spielberg at the Century Plaza Hotel. Scorsese told the audience of about 1′000 people in his speech: “I just wanted to make a good film and people would go see it and enjopy the film and God willing I’d get another picture and that’s it. I did not think I’d be standing here tonight, I’ll tel you that.”

The Impending Oil Crisis

quote I am a little leary of the situation. The truth will come out when, and if the US economy, and the dollar begins to strengthen. If prices remain high, you’ll know someone is lying. Either OPEC doesn’t have the supply they claim they have, or Analysts are incorrect when they say demand has decreased. Personally, I don’t buy the claim that demand has decreased. Population is ever increasing, so, the the demand should always be increasing. quote
