Darren AronofskyDirector Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain) shared some details as to the status of some of his upcoming projects in a Q&A with Moviehole.

Aronofsky revealed that both Lone Wolf and Cub, based on a 1970’s manga comic about a shogun executioner gone assassin, and Black Flies, based on a coming of age book about a Harlem medical technician, are still in the writing stages. Filming on both is therefore still a while off. Talking about The Hunt, an unknown project he’s been linked to, he said: “The Hunt is a great action film in the spirit of Predator. It is being scripted by Lucas Sussman a college roommate of mine and the project is at Universal”. The entire Q&A, which also sees the director address the DVD of The Fountain and detail what his take of Batman would have been like, can be read here.

mcadamssmall.jpgWith Katie Holmes opting out of the Batman Begins sequel The Dark Knight, Canadian Actress Rachel McAdams (The Wedding Crashers) is once again being attached to the project.

These rumors first began to circulate in December when Moviehole mentioned her name in conjunction with the next outing for the caped crusader. Now Batman-on-film is suggesting that she will replace Holmes in the role of Rachel Dawes, Assistant D.A. and Bruce Wayne’s love interest.

DarkHorizons reports that this time around the role “will be very small, amounting to a few scenes at most.” This looks to be third time lucky for McAdams who has been linked to both Iron Man and Superman Returns in the past.

Helen Mirren with the SAG Award for Best ActressThe Screen Actors Guild has announced its winners, honouring the top acting performances of the year 2006.

Matching the outcome of the Golden Globe awards, Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland) and Helen Mirren (The Queen) took home the Best Actor/Actress awards, and Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls) the prizes in Supporting Actor/Actress categories. The main award for the Best Ensemble Cast surprisingly went to Little Miss Sunshine, over favourites The Departed and Babel. Variety believes this, together with the PGA award, puts the indie film in the forefront for the Best Picture Oscar.

madmansmall.jpgAnarchymusic.net have been talking to Madman creator Michael Allred about the upcoming movie adaptation of his comic book series.

When asked for an update on the project, the artist and writer said “what makes it special is that my champion in this cause is Robert Rodriguez. He has complete autonomy. He has his own studio facilities out in Austin, Texas. He’s got the largest green screen outside of Hollywood. He’s the most independent film maker in that he doesn’t have to rely on anybody else to give him a green light. But in this case we have a green light! We have to put the finishing touches on the screenplay and that seems to be the last hurdle. At this point today, that to me would be reason to be optimistic.”

Bob Hoskins is joining the cast of Doomsday, a sci-fi action thriller from Rogue Pictures directed by Dog Soldiers helmer Neil Marshall says The Hollywood Reporter.

The story is set in a futuristic Great Britain where a deadly plague known as the Reaper Virus has broken out, killing hundreds of thousands in its wake. In desperation, the British Government evacuates as many survivors as it can out of the infected area and then builds a wall, preventing the remainder from escaping. Thirty years later with the wall still up and the victims all but forgotten, the virus breaks out again. The Government decides to send a crack team of operatives led by Major Eden Sinclair into the hot zone to investigate the possibility of a cure.

Hoskins will play a policeman who monitors the progress of the team, headed by Rhona Mitra, which is attempting to retrieve a cure. The project begins filming next month in South Africa and the UK.

barbarellasmall.jpgDino De Laurentis has revealed to NBC30 that he intends to create a new Barbarella franchise.

It’s “not a remake of ‘Barbarella”‘ but “a completely new ‘Barbarella.’” said the veteran producer, adding that it will have “love, sex, adventure.” Apparently the script’s being worked on now, but no has been cast for the lead.

De Laurentis produced the original Barbarella, Queen of the Galaxy, a 1968 erotic science fiction film, based on the French Barbarella comic book created by Jean-Claude Forest. The The comic and film both feature Barbarella, a young woman who has numerous adventures, often involving sex, while journeying around the galaxy, c.A.D. 40,000.

mastersmall.jpgDoctor Who’s greatest adversary, the Master, is rumored to be returning to the show in the new series. Life on Mars star John Simm is favourite to play the renegade Timelord.

A show insider told The Sun: “He’s brilliant and we would love to get him on board.”

The character, who the producers envisaged as ‘Professor Moriarty to the Doctor’s Sherlock Holmes’ first appeared in Terror of the Autons in 1971 and was last seen in the 1996 Doctor Who television movie that starred Paul McGann.  With his sights set on universal domination, the Timelord’s goal is to become the master of all matter and destroy the Doctor in the process. He also pilots his own T.A.R.D.I.S. which differs from the Doctor’s in so much it has a ‘chameleon circuit’ which allows it to blend into any environment.

clonewarSSMALL.jpgIn an interview with IESB, John Knoll of ILM has revealed that the new Clone Wars animated series is moving forward far quicker than expected.

“Well, I speak to Rob Coleman periodically, he’s over in Lucas animation, and he’s been directing episodes of the animated TV show and they’re well into that, the Clone Wars thing is fully into production right now.” said Knoll. When questioned if he’s be involved in the live action TV show, Knoll said “I don’t know, I think it’s unlikely, I think they are going to try and do it through the Singapore crew. But I really don’t know, nobody has talked to me about that at all. I don’t know if they are thinking they want ILM involved in any kind [of way].”

In Steven Sansweets words, the new Clone Wars series is set to be “the next generation of the Star Wars saga, a cutting edge 30-minute, 3-D computer-animation series based on the Clone Wars that take place between Episode II … and Episode III.”

The Impending Oil Crisis

quote I am a little leary of the situation. The truth will come out when, and if the US economy, and the dollar begins to strengthen. If prices remain high, you’ll know someone is lying. Either OPEC doesn’t have the supply they claim they have, or Analysts are incorrect when they say demand has decreased. Personally, I don’t buy the claim that demand has decreased. Population is ever increasing, so, the the demand should always be increasing. quote
